Sylvester Fremont Blake was born July 10, 1856, in Richmond Twp., Richland Co., WI, and died October 18, 1921, in Wisconsin State Hospital for the Insane, Westport Twp., Dane Co., WI, at age 65. Buried in East Side Cemetery, Dodgeville, Iowa Co., WI. He is the son of Simon Simpkins Blake of Martinsburg, Bedford (Blair) Co., PA, and Mary Magdalena Ambrose of near Ligonier, Westmoreland Co., PA.

Ida A. May Halsey was born August 1, 1862, in Orion Twp., Richland Co., WI, and died Friday, June 4, 1920, in the City of Dodgeville, Iowa Co., WI, at age 57. Buried in East Side Cemetery, Dodgeville, Iowa Co., WI. She is the daughter of George W. Halsey of Fairfield, NY, and Huldah Annabella Richards of Richland Co., IL. Her parents were married on March 23, 1858, in Wisconsin.

Huldah's husband, George W. Halsey, residing at Henrietta, WI, enlisted at Madison, Dane Co., WI, as a private into Company A, 16th Infantry Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteers, on September 26, 1864. He served until February 27, 1865, when he died of Homesickness (fatigue) at Lynch's Creek, SC.

After George W. Halsey died, Huldah Annabella (Richards) Halsey married December 20, 1865, in Richland Co., WI, to Isaiah Monroe Frye, who was ten years younger than her and was also recently widowed.

William Abbey, Sylvester Blake, Marty. Brenaman and Mr. Crouch, minister, have each located a "claim" in Norton county, Kan. Mr. Crouch is preaching on that circuit, and will not return to Wisconsin this year as he anticipated. Mr. Blake has rented his place for the year and will return home first week in May. The above claims are quarter sections and are first-class land.

Alonzo Charles Halsey and Kate Sharp were married April 30, 1883, in Richland Co., WI. Kate is the daughter of James Sharp and Francis Privett.

Salome Halsey died March 7, 1886, in Wisconsin at age 3.

Alonzo Charles Halsey died September 10, 1900, at 218 Fifth Street, City of San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX, at age 40.

MORTUARY.

Rev. A. C. Halsey, aged about 40 years, a resident of Cuba, Wis., died after a long illness at 218 Fifth street yesterday morning at 3 'clock. The deceased has relatives residing in Wisconsin. The remains are being held at Shelly's undertaking parlors pending advices from them.

On June 5, 1917, William Charles Halsey (age 30), born July 25, 1886, in Bloom, WI, is a married Laborer for Standard Oil Co, and is living in Richmond, CA. He claims an exemption based upon Religious grounds, apparently claimed by someone else.

Living with him is his wife, Ida Blake (age 57) born in Wisconsin to New York and Illinois-born parents. Also living in the house is a renter and her children, all born in Wisconsin to Wisconsin-born parents: Maud Stratman (age 36), an unemployed Head of Household widow; Dallas Stratman (age 15), a Farm Laborer; Donald Stratman (age 15), a Student; George Stratman (age 14); and Marian Stratman (age 4-9/12). Leigh Larson Note: Maude Stratman is Sylvester Blake's niece, is unemployed and renting from her uncle.

Ida A. May (Halsey) Blake died June 4, 1920, in Dodgeville, Iowa Co., WI at age 57. Buried in East Side Cemetery, Dodgeville, Iowa Co., WI. She died from typhoid fever.

OBITUARY - BLAKE

Mrs. Ida A. Blake, wife of Sylvester F. Blake, died at 9:30 a. m. Friday, June 4, 1920, at the age of 57 years, 10 months, and 3 days, after a lingering illness of nine months terminating in typhoid fever. Mrs. Blake was born at Orion, Wis., August 1, 1862. She was married to Sylvester F. Blake Jan. 23, 1881. Thirty-two years ago, they came to Dodgeville, where they have since made their home. She is survived by her husband, and also numerous relatives at the home of her birth. The funeral services were held Saturday, June 5, from her late home, and were conducted by Rev. Gwilym E. Jones, who served in place of her pastor, Rev. Griffiths, who is ill. Miss Frances Lewis and Mrs. Dal Lewis sang. Interment was at the Eastside cemetery.

Sylvester Fremont Blake died October 18, 1921, in Wisconsin State Hospital for the Insane, Westport Twp., Dane Co., WI, at age 65. His death certificate indicated that he had a Septicemia (probably a Staph infection) following an infection on the neck of one day, with an infection on the arm a contributing factor. He had been under treatment there for 2 months and 17 days.


By 1930, Kate Scott (age 65) is living alone in the Village of Cuba City, Smelser Twp., Grant Co., WI.

Census taken on April 22, 1940, shows Jess Scott (age 76) born in Illinois, and 5 years ago was living in the Same House, and with 4 years of School, is a married man with no occupation who owns his home worth $1,500 and is living on Madison Street, 1st Ward, City of Cuba City, Smelser Twp., Grant Co., WI. Living with him are: his wife, Kate Scott (age 75) born in Wisconsin, and 5 years ago was living in the Same House, and with 7 years of School; and an unmarried Lodger, Robert Halsey (age 41) born in Wisconsin, and 5 years ago was living in the Same House, and with 10 years of School, a Laborer in Mines.

Kathryn died June 10, 1943.

Winifred May Bell Halsey was born May 1, 1844, in Wisconsin, and died August 4, 1944, in Cuba City, Grant Co., WI.

Robert Foster Halsey died 1952.
