Buried in Redwood Falls Cemetery, Redwood Falls, Redwood Co., MN. He is the son of George Washington King of Warsaw Twp., Wyoming Co., NY, and Caroline George of New York.

Sadie Samantha Harris was born July 28, 1880, in Regal Twp., Kandiyohi Co., MN, and died July, 1953, in Waterloo, Black Hawk Co., IA, at about age 73. Buried in Redwood Falls Cemetery, Redwood Falls, Redwood Co., MN. She is the daughter of John Benjamin Harris of Wisconsin, and Sarah Ann Abbey of Clarke Twp., Newcastle Dist., Durham Co., Canada West.

Walter King and Sadie Samantha (Harris) King adopted one child:

  1. Claude Monroe Abel: Born January 21, 1899, in Becker Co., MN; Died May 12, 1958, in Fargo, Cass Co., ND (age 59). Buried in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, Clay Co., MN. Married about 1918 to Ida E. Forum: Born September 9, 1899, in Minnesota; Died April, 1976, in Fargo, Cass Co., ND (age 76). Buried in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, Clay Co., MN. Claud was adopted by Walter and Sadie King. When they found out that he had a sister they went to get her, but she was already adopted. His mother's maiden name is Kindle. According to Bert Abel's July, 1926, obituary, his parents died several years before he did. No idea what "several" means! According to jrm, Mabel Abel said he was killed in a deer hunting accident near Bemidji (date not stated). Claud Abel's "The Life of an Orphan" states that his father, William Abel, died in November, 1902.

  2. Gordon Bennet King: Born December 18, 1911, in Redwood Co., MN; Died April 7, 1975, in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., MN (age 63). Married to Alice Johannah Allex: Born July 7, 1914, in North Dakota; Died December 10, 1993, in Circle Pines, MN (age 79).

  3. Donald Russell King: Born October 3, 1917, in Redwood Co., MN; Died August, 1985, in Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau Co., MO (age 68). Last rites for Walter King, 71, who farmed a few miles west of Redwood Falls, MN, since 1895 before retiring, will be in the Church of Christ. Burial Redwood cemetery. He died from a paralytic stroke after ailing since 1934 when he suffered a sunstroke. Rev. Harry Bucalstien will conduct the services which will follow immediately the union Good Friday worship at the church. Pallbearers Walter Wolverton, George Eckhart, Everett Wetmore, J. A. Storts, A. L. Britton, Wayne Prindle. The veteran farmer is survived by his wife, daughter, Mrs. R. L. Friedley of Waterloo, Iowa, sons, Gordon and Donald of Redwood Falls, MN, a sister Mrs. Will George of Kaponsin, Wash. 5 brothers preceded him in death. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren - Perry, Sydney, Joyce, and Jack, Children of Mrs. Friedley; Gordon Jr. and Wayne, sons of Gordon and Wayne, sons of Gordon; Marlene and Carol Jean, daughter of Donald. And a boy whom Mr. and Mrs. King raised from the age of four, Claud Abel, now resides Seattle, Wash. Walter was born near Willmar, MN October 8 1870, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Washington King, living there and near Windom until he moved to the Redwood Falls area in 1895. He married Sadie Harris October 30, 1901, in Willmar, MN. He made his home on several farms west of the city during his active years & moved into the city w/Mrs. King in 1935, after retiring. He was a member of the Dist. 4 school board and member of Church of Christ 38 yrs, serving on building committee 1906-1908 and deacon for many years.


Samantha E. "Sadie" (Harris) King died July, 1953, in Waterloo, Black Hawk Co., IA, at about age 73. Buried in Redwood Falls Cemetery, Redwood Falls, Redwood Co., MN.


Funeral services for Mrs. Sadie King, 73, of Redwood Falls were held this afternoon at Church of Christ with Kenneth C. Hanson, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Harvey Huhnerkoch and Mrs. Guy Manning sang with Diane Huhnerkoch as accompanist, and pallbearers were Eber Sparks, E. E. Wetmore, Dr. C. Cherry, Willard Neuenburg, Harry Brown and Roy Castle. Interment was in Redwood Falls cemetery. Sadie Samantha Harris, daughter of John Benjamin and Sarah Harris and one of 16 children, was born July 28, 1880 at Paynesville. She attended grade school there and high school at Duluth and was married to Walter King at Paynesville in October 1900 [October 30, 1901]. They lived on farms near Redwood Falls until her husband died April 1, 1942. She was an active member of Church of Christ. Mrs. King died Monday morning at Waterloo, Iowa, from heart trouble after an illness of 1 1/2 months. Mrs. Roy Friedley of Waterloo, two sons, Gordon B. King of Hugo and Donald King of Redwood Falls, a foster son, Claud Abel of Seattle, Wash., 13 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one brother, Ernest Harris of Rosemount..
