wife, Sarah A. Harris (age 51) born in New York. Also living there are his five

John Benjamin Harris died May 17, 1899 in Regal, Stearns

Edward John Van Vorst died June 10, 1921 in Burke

widow owning her own home worth $1,000 and is living on Second Avenue East, 3rd
Ward, City of Kenmare, Ward Co., ND. Living with her are her two unmarried
daughters, both born in North Dakota to Minnesota and Swedish-born parents:
Merle M. Van Vorst (age 20), a Telephone Operator; and Ruth S. Van Vorst (age
16).

Census taken on April 11, 1930 shows Ole Stafney (age 69) born in Norway to

and a Naturalized citizen is a Section Foreman for the Great Northern Rail Road

Bert M. Van Vorst was born March 31, 1891 in

Mary (Stafney)
Johnson, 59, Mandan, died Feb. 10, 2008, at MedCenter One Bismarck. Services
will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at McCabe United Methodist
Church, Bismarck. Rev Jim Moos and Rev. Heather Bodwell will officiate.
Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Perry Funeral Home and
continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Mary Ellen Stafney was
born Nov. 13, 1948, in Kenmare, the youngest daughter of C.G. and Ruth (Van
Vorst) Stafney. She was raised in Mohall, and graduated from Mohall High School
in 1966. She attended University of North Dakota and graduated from the
University of Oregon, Eugene, with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught
school in Mohall and worked for the ASCS office in Mohall. On June 6, 1980, she
married Rev. Steve C. Johnson at the Mohall United Methodist Church. Even though
they had been born in the opposite corners of the state, both of them had been
baptized by the same pastor, Rev. Ralph Rowe. Mary and Steve served parishes in
Mohall, Williston, Hazen, Valley City, and Mandan, along with other churches
that were linked to these larger churches.Mary will be remembered for her
exceptional musical ability. Her main ministry was leading the children in
Sunday School songs. Mary brought joy to hundreds of children. She was active in
church choirs, United Methodist Women, PTA, and Bible study. Mary was diagnosed
with AML on July 17, 2007. At the time of her death she was the church secretary
at Bismarck United Church of Christ. Mary often commented on how much she loved
her job and the people she worked with. Survivors include her husband, Rev.
Steve C. Johnson, Mandan; children: Christopher, Minneapolis; Pamela, Grand
Forks; and Randy, Mandan; two brothers, Jim Stafney, Riverside Calif., and John
(Darlene) Stafney, Sartell, Minn.; and one sister, Carol Stafney, Riverside,
Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, Custer and Ruth Stafney. In
lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Mary’s name. Arrangements are
being made by Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.
