Oliver and Annie homesteaded in Flagstone, and Oliver owned a small mill, the local Post Office, and General Store.

Laurence Turney married Dorothy when she was 17, and they lived in Fernie, BC, and then moved to Cranbrook. Laurence served as a Sergeant in WWII.

Dorothy Pearl Abbey was the second youngest and she cared for her father Oliver Alva Abbey when he developed colon cancer and subsequently passed away. Yes, we spread my Gran's (Dorothy Pearl) ashes at her Dad's (Oliver Alva) gravesite. Please share whatever you want.....I will see what else I can find. I know my Gran had some photos on metal but don't know who they are. Hard to get information when they have passed on. My Gran died of Alzheimer's disease which she got starting in her 80s.

CRANBROOK, B. C., Oct. 5. - Oliver A. Abbey, 78, a resident of the Flagstone-Waldo district for 43 years, died in Fernie hospital recently. He was born at Port Hope, Ont., and came to East Kootenay as a railway employee in the district's early days. In 1904 he bought a farm at Flagstone, where he has lived ever since. His wife, the former Elizabeth Smale, died there in 1929. Surviving him are five daughters, Mrs. Lillian Loveland at Linwood, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Tierney and Mrs. Edith Taylor at Cranbrook; and Mrs. Irene Letcher and Mrs. Mary Roo of Roosville, and seven sons, Verne in the United States, Wilbert in England, Roy in Cranbrook, Archie and George at Newgate, Henry at Waldo, and Clarence at Roosville. Funeral services were held at Grassmer Community hall with Rev. H. T. Allen of Fernie United Church officiating.

FERNIE, - Funeral services for Oliver A. Abbey who died at Fernie, were held at Grassmer Community Hall with Rev. H. T. Allen of Fernie United Church officiating. Mr. Abbey came to the district nearly 50 years ago as a railway employee soon after the rail line was built, but in 1904 he bought a farm at Flagstone. He is survived by seven sons, Wilbert in England; Verne in the United States; Roy, Cranbrook; Archie and George, Newgate; Henry, Waldo; and Clarence, Roosville; five daughters, Mrs. Lillian Loveland, Linwood, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Tierney and Mrs. Edith Taylor, Cranbrook; and Mrs. Irene Letcher and Mrs. Mary Roo, Roosville.
