Buried in Tobacco Valley Cemetery, Eureka, Lincoln Co., MT. She is the daughter of Oliver Alva Abbey of Lot 26, Con. 2, Hope Twp., Northumberland and Durham Co., Canada West, and Anne Elizabeth "Annie" Smale of London, England.

Grasmere pioneer dies

A pioneer of the Grasmere and Jaffray area, Mrs. Irene Beatrice Letcher, died on August 10 in the Fernie General Hospital at the age of 73 years, following a lengthy illness since November 1975. Born in Jaffray on February 17, 1903, she grew up in Flagstone and married Frank Letcher on July 25, 1923, making their home at Roosville. Mrs. Letcher was a lifetime member of the Grasmere Triangle Women's' Institute, and held membership in the Senior Citizens group of Eureka Montana. Surviving are husband Frank, daughters Emma Mayo of Calgary, Beatrice McMaster of Monroe, Washington, Josephins Foster of Pacheco, California,  Frances Steffan of Alderwood Manor, Wash., and sons William, Cecil, Donald and Thomas of Grasmere, twenty-six grand-children, and eleven great grand-children, four sisters, Mrs. Lill Loveland of Los Angeles, Mrs. Mary Roo of Grasmere, Mrs. Edith Taylor and Mrs. Dorothy Turney of Cranbrook, brothers Archie Abbey of Fernie, Vern Abbey of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and William and Alfred of Cranbrook. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, August 14, in the First Baptist church Eureka with Rev. Carl Pershall officiating followed by interment in Tobacco Valley cemetery. Bearing the casket were her five grandsons, Thomas, James, William, and Leon Letcher of Grasmere, and Robert McMaster of Lake Stephens, Wash., and nephew Gary Letcher of Fernie. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Dr. Fahmi Handicapped Children's' Home in Fernie.
