OWLS HEAD – Donald R. Keating, 69, died Monday, January 24, 2005 at his residence following a sudden illness. Born in Camden, January 26, 1935, he was the son of George Henry and Eva Jay Pierson Keating. Following his father’s death at a young age, he was raised by his step-father George Sheldon Gray who died in 1986. Educated in local schools he was a graduate of Camden High School. Following graduation he entered the United States Air Force where he worked as an airplane mechanic. On August 24, 1957, he married Olive M. Armstrong in Las Vegas, Nevada. Returning to Rockland he was an owner of K & K Transmissions where he worked for 35 years. His family states that he “loved to fish, hunt and go bowling”. He especially enjoyed trips to New Hampshire to play bingo, going on vacations and just simply driving around. He was a member of Beaver Lodge in Union and the Rockland Lodge of Elks. Predeceased by his wife in 2001 he is survived by his mother of Rockland; three sons; Larry Keating and his wife Jean of Cushing; Gary Keating and his wife Karen of Owls Head; Donald Keating and his wife Betsy of Owls Head, two brothers; George Keating and his wife Nancy of Rockland and Robert Keating and his wife Lois in Nevada, nine grandchildren; Tabitha Keating, Wesley Keating, Wayne Keating, Adam Keating, Jessica Keating, Jason Keating, Jennifer Keating, Joshua Keating and Jasmine Keating, one great grandchild; Aaron Benner. At the request of the family there will be no services. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.

BELOIT MAN HURT IN AUTO ACCIDENT
Ira Armstrong, 69, Taken To Hospital
Beloit, Wis., Oct. 25. - Ira Armstrong, 69, 1877-1/2 5th street, suffered minor cuts about the face when the automobile in which he was riding collided with another machine owned by Clifford Royce, rural route 1, Clinton, in front of 1817 5th street early this evening. Lester Armstrong, Henry avenue and Riverside drive, driver of the machine, was uninjured. The injured man was taken to Municipal hospital by Elmer Wilson, 1817 5th street. Armstrong was driving north on 5th street when the accident occurred, according to a police report. Both machines were damaged considerably.

A reunion of the Winegarden family took place Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bates, Eighth street south. A picnic dinner was served and the day spent socially. Beloit Youth Draws Term for Assault
A Green Bay reformatory term of 1 to 2 years was imposed in Municipal Court here Tuesday morning by Judge Ralph F. Gunn on Walter A. Armstrong, 19, Beloit, who had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with intent to steal. Armstrong was arrested by Rock County deputies on the complaint of Mrs. Mary Drafahl, 77-year-old Footville farm woman who said one youth manhandled her in her farm home on the morning of Sept. 16 as another searched the kitchen for money. Named as the companion was Alwin P. LaBundy, 18, Beloit, who has denied an assault charge and will appear here for jury trial Nov. 3. Sentence in the Armstrong case was imposed after his record had been investigated by the State Department of Public Welfare.

BELOIT - Mrs. Arnold Borgwardt died Sunday in a Beloit hospital. She was born 50 years ago in Tomah, Wis., and was married to Arnold Borgwardt, Aug. 24, 1923. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Donald and Robert, both of Beloit; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Buchanan and Mrs. Betty Laux; two brothers, including Leo Radtke of Pecatonica; and three sisters. Service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Schoenfeld Funeral Home. The Rev. Trevor Sandness, pastor of Atonement Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. South Beloit Man Gets Three Years
BELOIT - Walter Armstrong, 31, South Beloit, was sentenced to three years in the Wisconsin State Prison Monday in County Court Branch 3 on counts of burglary and theft. Armstrong was among five persons arrested in connection with a burglary at the Bradford School in December with food and equipment being stolen. Judge Edwin C. Dahlberg ordered that the term be served consecutively with the unserved portion of an earlier prison sentence.

He died at 5:10 p.m. yesterday in Parnell Park Nursing Home. Mr. Armstrong, a native of Wisconsin, was a retired construction worker. Betsy J. (Bosquette) Keating, 53, of Owls Head passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, in Belfast. She was born April 16, 1958, in St. George, the daughter of Ellsworth and Viletta (Chadwick) Bosquette. As a child, Betsy attended Ridge Church in St. George. Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, bowling and beano, and she enjoyed listening to music. Betsy loved cuddling with the pets she had over the years, most recently a special dog named Zander. One of her greatest loves was spending time with her children and family. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Johnny Linscott. Betsy is survived by her spouse of more than 30 years, Donald Keating Jr. of Owls Head; her children, Tabitha Keating and fiancé Amos Benner of St. George and Wesley Keating of Rockland; her siblings, Linda Grard and husband, Gary, and Ronald Linscott and wife, Diane; her grandson, Aaron Benner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Nicole Lynn Stetson Nichols and Lary Salvatory Keating were united in marriage June 7, 2014, in Owls Head. Pamela Rengle officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George and Marilyn Stetson of Waldoboro. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Olive Keating. The bride is a 1990 graduate of Mt. Ararat High School, Topsham, and a 1993 graduate of Northern Maine Community College, Presque Isle, and 2006 graduate of University of Maine, Augusta. She is employed as a registered nurse by Veteran’s Affairs, Togus. The groom is a 1988 graduate of Rockland District High School. He is self-employed in the Midcoast fishing industry and owner and operator of Beach Side Grill in Owls Head. The couple plan to build a new home in Owls Head.

Gary Slade Keating, age 56, died following a brief illness on August 3, 2022 at home with his loving wife and son by his side. Born September 1 of 1965 in Rockland, he was the son of Donald and Olive Keating. Gary is the middle child with his two brothers Donald and Lary. He graduated from Rockland District High School in 1983. Growing up he traveled with his family and loved hunting. When he was young his grandmother Eva introduced him to candlepin bowling and his love for the sport took off! Bowling was his favorite pastime. You would always find him on a league with his bowling brothers: Jason, Eric, Ray and Ron at Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport, Maine. When Gary's children were younger you would always find him on the sideline at any of their sporting games cheering them on. They spent many summers and weekends camping at Micmac Campground or swimming in any one of their favorite local swimming holes. You could also find him riding his bike around Thomaston looking for treasures to collect. Predeceased by his parents, Donald and Olive Keating; his older brother Donald Keating; his father in-law, Donald Demmons; and his beloved pet Jojo. Gary is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Karen Keating, and his 5 children – his sons, Wayne, Adam and Jason; his daughters, Jessica and Jennifer; his sons-in-laws Christopher and Alex; his mother-in-law, Patricia Demmons; his aunts, Nancy and Paula, who was his dear friend; his grandchildren, Kylie, Gwen, Penelope and Gunther; his brother, Lary and his wife; and his many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held with close family and friends at a private service.

CORINTH - Scott R. Nichols, 45, passed away August 29, 2015 after battling cancer for 11 months. He was born in Presque Isle the son of Suellen (Pelkey) Hill and Peter Nichols on November 3, 1969. He moved to Nobleboro, Maine in 1999 and later resided in Waldoboro, Maine. He lived in Corinth, Maine at the time of his death. Scott was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather and friend to many. He had many passions in his life including his family and friends, horses, race cars and camping with companion Karen and their four children and friends. Scott had a knack for making friends wherever he went. He was a builder by trade and was a master at fixing what was broken. He is survived by his companion, Karen Tunks, who lovingly took excellent care of him until the end. Also, his Mother and Step father, Suellen and David Hill, his father Peter Nichols and companion Claudette, his loving children Paige (Derrick) and Cole and grandson, Parker. Scott is also survived by brother Troy Nichols and sister Beth Wintle (Scott) and their two children Lexi and Lily. He will also be remembered by Karen's daughters, Jessica and Katie along with many wonderful friends. A casual Celebration of Scott's life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 1:00 at 47 Abbott Hill Road in Dexter. The family is asking that you come join them in celebrating Scott's life. He will be missed by all those who loved him.
