Enjoy Picnic At Tomah Home
About 25 relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Rebenolt, Tomah, on Sunday for a picnic and social time. The gathering
honored Pfc. Albert W. Sisson, who is stationed at Arlington Hall Station,
Arlington, Va. He is visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Sisson, Rochester, Minn. Present were Albert Jero, Spring Valley, Minn.;
Mrs. Henry Sisson and daughter Gloria, Rochester, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Jero,

R.I.P. JOHN SPLINTER
The Rev. Canon John T. Splinter, 1972
Prayers are asked for the repose of the soul of the Rev. Canon John T.
Splinter who died October 25, 2019. He was 78. He is survived by his wife
Barbara. John was a Wisconsin native who lived, worked and volunteered here
his entire life. He graduated from UW-Madison and Nashotah House Seminary.
He was ordained a priest on September 13, 1966, He served congregations in
Racine, Greendale, Tomahawk, Antigo, Marshfield, Wausau and Oneida. After
retirement in 1998 he served congregations in the Dioceses of Fond du Lac,
Eau Claire and Milwaukee. In addition to being a parish priest, Fr. John was
active at the diocesan level in a variety of capacities such as the
Ecumenical Commission and Commission on Ministry. He was involved with
Cursillo and served on its national board. He was installed as an Honorary
Canon of the Cathedral June 7, 2003. He is noted as a life-long lover of
nature, the arts and education. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on
Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 409 E. Court St.,
Janesville with the Rt. Rev. Matthew A. Gunter and the Rev. Kathy Monson
Lutes officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the
time of the service at the church. Memorials would be greatly appreciated if
made to Friends of Aztalan State Park near John’s childhood home and where

Rev. John Splinter

The Rev. John T. Splinter, age 78, of Janesville died peacefully on Friday
October 25, 2019 at his home. He was born in Watertown, WI on October 10,
1941, the son of the late Herbert and Elizabeth Irene (Zick) Splinter. On
June 25, 1966 in Milwaukee, John married Barbara Ann Schaefer, and together
they had two children. John was a Wisconsin native and lived, worked and
volunteered here his entire life. After graduating from UW Madison and
Nashotah House Seminary, he was ordained in the Episcopal Church and served
parishes in Racine, Greendale, Tomahawk, Antigo, Marshfield and Oneida. In
later years, he substituted and served as interim in other churches in the
dioceses of Fond du Lac and Milwaukee. John was a life-long lover of nature
and the arts. He was a hunter, fisherman, wildlife photographer, gardener,
bird watcher/counter, park volunteer and loved his cabin in the north woods.
He sang actively in choral groups wherever he lived and encouraged music in
all his parishes. At home, he was a life-long woodworker, making a great
many treasures for family and friends. John loved education. He was always
learning, reading, or teaching himself a new skill. His homes and offices
were always full of books and magazines and he took full advantage of the
power of the internet to expand his world even more. John was devoted to
family. His sons have followed him in his many loves and carry them forward.
He and Barb actively followed the pursuits of their children and John took
special joy in his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of over 53
years, Barb of Janesville; his two sons: Timothy (Marcia) Splinter of
Garrettsville, OH and their children: Eric and Kevin; Daniel (Sarah)
Splinter of Edgerton and their daughter: Athena; sisters: Gloria (David)
Wilberg of Ocala, FL and Nancy (Russ) Zguta of Columbia, MO; aunt Betty Ives
of Monona Grove, WI; and numerous nieces, nephews cousins. He is preceded in
death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday,
November 9, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 409 E. Court St., Janesville
with Rt. Rev. Matthew A. Gunter and Rev. Kathy Monson Lutes officiating.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at

Sandra Ruth "Sandy" Spoehr was married June 9, 1962, at Immanuel Lutheran
Church, Hubbleton, Dodge Co., WI, to: Asa Tarbel "Ace" Tufts. Born September 23,
1937, in Hanover, NH. Died June 24, 2003, in a motorcycle accident on Highway QQ
near Middle Road, 8 miles west of Watertown (age 65). Buried in Glenview
Memorial Park, Ixonia, Jefferson Co., WI.

Watertown man killed in crash
TOWN OF SHIELDS - A 65-year-old rural Watertown man was killed in a
motorcycle accident on Tuesday morning. The investigation shows the 2001
Harley Davidson that Asa T. Tufts was riding was traveling south on Highway
QQ and struck a deer. After striking the deer, Tufts was ejected and the
cycle then struck a bridge abutment and guard. A motorist called police at
10:43 a.m., to report a cyclist lying in the road on Highway QQ near Middle
Road, 8 miles west of Watertown. Tufts, who was wearing a helmet, was
pronounced dead at the scene. This is the county's 14th traffic fatality,
compared to eight at this time last year.

Beverly J. Spoehr
August 14, 1942 - June 15, 2022
Beverly J. Spoehr, 79, of Watertown, passed away at Sylvan Crossings at
Hunter Ridge, in Beaver Dam, on June 15, 2022. A Memorial Service will be
held on Monday June 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at Hafemeister Funeral Home in
Watertown, with Rev. Lance Hoff officiating. Relatives and friends may
gather at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown from 10:00 am until the
time of the service. Burial will follow at Glenview Memorial Gardens in

Beverly Jean Spoehr was born on August 14, 1942, the daughter of Elmer and
Helen (Lenius) Kube. She married Robert “Bob” Spoehr on May 25, 1963, at St.
Luke’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. They were married for 47 years.
Together they had six children. She enjoyed square dancing in her younger
years as well as being active in the area homemakers and church, sewing,
crocheting, baking, gardening, canning, and camping. Beverly is survived by
her children: Carol Spoehr of Madison, Allen (Tammy Stendel) Spoehr of
Jefferson, Kay (Tom) Hallberg of Kellogg, MN, Lynn (Chris) Gross of Lake
Mills, Darlene (Brandon) Schultz of Watertown, Deanna Spoehr of Watertown;
grandchildren: Christopher (Colleen) Spoehr, Tony (Jolyne) Spoehr, James
(Cameron) Maxwell, Jeff Spoehr, Brittany (John) Schmidt, Colin (Natalie
Kleven) Dahlke, Nicole Schmidt, Payge Dahlke, Kevin Schmidt, Justin Hallberg,
Gretchen Gross, Elizabeth Gross and Cheyenne Spoehr; great grandchildren:
James Maxwell Jr., Reagan Maxwell, and Madison Spoehr; brother: Robert
(Mary) Kube of Kirksville, Missouri, Nancy (Floyd) Block of Waukesha, and
sister-in-law: Barb Kube of Prairie Du Sac, as well as nieces, nephews,
other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents;
