For awhile after his marriage, Adam Shidell continued to live in Fond du Lac Co., doing farming and teaming. Later he went to Waupun, where he engaged in farming, and in the spring of 1881 he came to Wood Co., where he had previously purchased 80 acres of wild land in Section 14, Sherry Twp. On his first coming here he lived in true pioneer state in an old logging shack that was on his farm.

The January 1, 1883, list of military pensioners living in Wood Co., WI, shows Adam Shidell (P. O. address of Milladore) is receiving $2.00 per month for Wound left arm and right side, originally allowed in August, 1880.

CHILDREN RESCUED FROM BURNING HOUSE

A Residence at Green Bay is Totally Destroyed and Inmates Narrowly Escape.

Green Bay, Wis., Jan. 22. - (Special) -  A house owned by Louis Kalb and occupied by Edward Tempest and family was totally destroyed by fire this morning. The building is valued at $1500 and insured at $800. Several young men rescued two male children through a window.

August Hanke and Harriet Hayner Wedded Last Evening.

Last evening at the parsonage of the First Congregational church occurred the marriage of August Hanke, a carpenter of 220 Grove street, and Harriet E. Hayner. Rev. E. H. Smith officiated. Miss Stella Laing and John Zwicky were subscribing witnesses. The newly wedded left last evening for their future home in Portland, Ore.

After bearing with her husband's shiftlessness from the time of their marriage at Grand Rapids, Wis., October 2, 1884, Charlotte Tempest obtained a divorce from Charles Edward Tempest yesterday morning. She said that he deserted her twice when she was sick, once nine years ago in the East, and four years ago. He is now living with his married son, by Lents. Mrs. Tempest said that the last time he left was in March, last year.

Rites Here Tomorrow For Laona Resident

Brief rites will be held in Marshfield tomorrow afternoon for Joe Ratty, 76, formerly of Auburndale, who died Sunday after an illness of five weeks at his home at Laona, where he resided the past 35 years. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at the First Presbyterian church at Laona, after which the body will be brought here for burial. The funeral party is expected to arrive here about 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Mr. Ratty, who was married to Miss Anna Panzer of Auburndale in April, 1906, was employed as head sawyer for the Connor Lumber company during his stay at Auburndale. Prior to his marriage, he went to Laona where he helped to assemble the machinery for the present sawmill, and later helped build the mill around the machinery. He continued his work in Laona until about seven years ago when he retired. Surviving besides his widow are three brothers, Max Ratty, Laona; Mitchell Ratty, Montana; and Louis Ratty, California.

Funeral services will be held here Sunday for a former Auburndale resident, Mrs. Joseph Ratty, 82, of Laona, who died here at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital after a short illness. She was the former Anna Panzer. Final rites will be conducted by the Rev. G. M. Krueger, of Immanuel Lutheran Church, at 1:30 Sunday afternoon at the Hansen Funeral Chapel, where friends may call beginning Friday noon. Born in Wrightstown March 30, 1876, the former Miss Panzer later moved to Auburndale with her parents. She resided there until her marriage April 18, 1906, at Racine to Mr. Ratty. Since then she lived in Laona. A widow since 1939, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Panzer, and three brothers. Survivors are two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Bertha Underberg of Eau Claire, Mrs. Martha Haferman of Colby and Paul Panzer of Hewitt.
