Henry H. Blake




Henry H. Blake was born about 1847 in Huston Twp., Blair Co., PA, and died 1888 in Rockhill Furnace, Huntingdon Co., PA, at about age 41. Buried in Orbisonia Cemetery, Orbisonia, Huntingdon Co., PA. He is the son of James Blake of Maryland, and Susanna "Susan" Eshelman of Pennsylvania. 

Eliza Jane "Liza" Slates was born April 6, 1854, in Springfield Twp., Huntingdon Co., PA, and died August 9, 1927, at her home in Rockhill Furnace, Huntingdon Co., PA, at age 73. Buried in I. O. O. F. Memorial Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace, Huntingdon Co., PA. She is the daughter of Jacob Slates of Maryland, and Sophia Cowan of Pennsylvania. Eliza Fields?

  2. Henry Clay Blake: Born February, 1879, in Orbisonia Borough, Huntingdon Co., PA; Died 1900 - 1910 in Unknown. Never married.
  3. Alice Blanche Blake: Born October 20, 1881, in Orbisonia Borough, Huntingdon Co., PA; Died November 26, 1959, in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny Co., PA (age 78). Married about 1906 to John Rollis Sterner: Born June 7, 1883, in Rockwood, PA; Died August 1, 1947, at Columbia Hospital, Wilkinsburg, Allegheny Co., PA (age 64). Buried in Church Hill Cemetery (a.k.a. Churchill Cemetery), Wilkins Twp., Allegheny Co., PA.
  4. John Blake: Born February 12, 1884, in Orbisonia Borough, Huntingdon Co., PA; Died August 31, 1929, at the home of his sister, Alice Sterner, in Turtle Creek, Wilkens Twp., Allegheny Co., PA (age 45). Buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Never married.
  5. Raymond L. Blake: Born July 4, 1887, in Orbisonia Borough, Huntingdon Co., PA; Died September 27, 1916, at the Allegheny County Hospital for the Insane, Collier Twp., Allegheny Co., PA (age 29). Buried in I. O. O. F. Memorial Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace, Huntingdon Co., PA. Never married.

Living with him is his wife of 4 years, Alice Sterner (age 28) born in Pennsylvania to Pennsylvania-born parents, with both of the children born to her still alive. Census taken on January 14, 1920 shows Eliza Blake (age 56) born in Pennsylvania to Pennsylvania-born parents who cannot write is a widow owning her own home free of a mortgage and living on Iron Street, Rockhill Borough, Huntingdon Co., PA. Living with her is her unmarried son: John Blake (age 38) born in Pennsylvania to Pennsylvania-born parents, who is a Dinkey Engineer on a Steam Railroad.

Raymond L. Blake died September 27, 1916, at the Allegheny County Hospital for the Insane, Collier Twp., Allegheny Co., PA (age 29). Buried in I. O. O. F. Memorial Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace, Huntingdon Co., PA.

Raymond Blake, who has been confined in a sanitarium near Pittsburgh for several years, died in that institution last Wednesday and the remains were brought to the home of his mother, Mrs. Eliza BLAKE, in Rockhill where funeral services were held Sunday afternoon. Besides his mother he is survived by one brother John, at home, and a sister residing at Pittsburgh. Interment in Odd Fellows cemetery, Rockhill. The sympathy is extended to the sorrowing relatives and friends.

Liza Jane Blake

Liza Jane Blake, of Rockhill Furnace, Pa., died at her home Tuesday, August 9, 1927 about 5:30 P. M. Deceased was born in Springfield Township April 6, 1854, and was aged 73 years, 4 months and 3 days at the time of her death. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by the following children: John Blake, Rockhill Furnace, and Mrs. Alice Sterner, Turtle Creek, Pa., and the following brother and sisters: Mrs. Sado Brown, Saltillo; Mrs. Urith Fields, and Elmer Slates, of Springfield township. Services were held at the home of the deceased, Thursday, August 11, 1927 at 3:30 P. M., Rev. Ira Duvall and Rev. E. E. Dunkleberger officiating. Interment, Odd Fellows Cemetery. Funeral directed by Frank Heidel.


John Blake died August 31, 1929, at the home of his sister, Alice Sterner, in Turtle Creek, Wilkens Twp., Allegheny Co., PA, at age 45. Buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
