OBITUARY.

Hattie D. Mahaney.

Died, at the home of her son, William, in Pensacola, Florida, on Saturday, May 9, Hattie D. Mahaney, aged 46 years, 3 months and 7 days. There was sincere grief among the older residents of Jefferson last Saturday, when news came of the death Hattie Mahaney, who with the exception of the few years last past has spent nearly her whole life here. She has been in failing health for a long time, and a few weeks ago her brother, Dr. Charles W. Blake, of this city, went to her home in Pensacola to visit, and bring her back to the old home here. The home-coming was far different from what all had expected and hoped. Hattie D. Blake was born in Everett City, Penn., February 2, 1862, the daughter of C. T. and Sarah A. Blake. The family came to Jefferson in 1868, and this city has since been "home" to all of them, especially so since Father and Mother Blake died and were laid to rest in our cemetery. Hattie was united in marriage with Hillary Mahaney on March 4, 1880, in this city, and to this union two children were born; a daughter, Bessie, who died aged three years; and William Floyd, who survives his mother. Mr. Mahaney died more than 20 years ago. Since his death the family have been living elsewhere much of the time, and for the past year or more have resided at Pensacola, Florida. Mrs. Mahaney united with the Presbyterian church of this city in girlhood, and in her death was supported by a firm faith in the Master. She was a good woman, devoted to family and friends, and many hearts are made sore by her departure. The remains reached here yesterday morning, and funeral services were held from the home of her sister, Mrs. G. S. Toliver, yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Ehrstein conducted the service, preaching from the text "All things work together for good to them that love God." We express the sympathy of the community for all the sorrowing ones.

The 1910 U. S. Census taken April 18, 1910 shows William F. Mahamay (age 24) born in Iowa to Pennsylvania-born parents is an unmarried Hotel Storekeeper boarding at the Plaza Hotel, 600 Lake Shore Drive, 1st Ward, City of Port Arthur, Jefferson Co., TX.

On September 4, 1918, William Floyd Mahanay WWI Draft Registration Report shows he is a traveling salesman working for the H. R. Gering Co. on Farnum Street in Omaha, NE. He is living in Cedar Bluffs, Saunders Co., NE. His nearest relative is Dr. C. W. Blake of Jefferson, IA.

Several roomers and lodgers also live there.

Dora Lorenzen of Cedar Bluffs, NE, was a practical nurse who met William Floyd Mahanay of Jefferson, Green Co., IA, circa 1920 while he was a partner of the Killian Company in Cedar Bluffs.
