Brian Lee Johnson was born April 26, 1959, the son of Warren and RoJean (Cummins) Johnson, in Cavalier, N.D. He grew up and attended school in East Grand Forks. He graduated from Rasmunson Business College, St. Paul. He married Kim Luhman Feb. 13, 1982, in West St. Paul, Minn. He worked for Nationwide Papers of Minneapolis, Cross Pointe Paper, St. Paul, and currently Unisource of Minneapolis. He is survived by his children, Justin, Luke and Cassie, all of South St. Paul, Minn; his mother, RoJean Cummins, Grand Forks; brothers, Joel, Billings, Mont., Galen and Lon, both of Grand Forks, Kelly, East Grand Forks, and Daniel, Elk River, Minn. He was preceded in death by his father. Services: Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in United Lutheran Church, Grand Forks. Charles Orrin Abbey

Charles Orrin Abbey of Grand Forks, ND, died Thursday, December 10th, 2009 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family. Orrin was born on October 20, 1928 in Gilby, ND, the son of Pearl and Charles Abbey. He was raised in Gilby where he graduated from high school. Orrin attended the Wahpeton State School of Science following graduation from high school. In 1950, Orrin married Marilyn Nygard of Grafton, ND. They had five children together, Deborah, Karen, Merle, Kathy, and Steven. The day before their marriage, he received notice that he was drafted. Orrin served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in France. He worked as a federal potato inspector, in real estate sales, and in numerous agriculture-related fields. Orrin was very involved in community activities including serving as president of East Grand Forks District 595 School Board. In 1986 Orrin and Marilyn Berg of Fisher, MN were united in marriage. They have been residing in Fisher, MN for the last three years. Orrin enjoyed his retirement greatly, spending time traveling, cooking, gardening, and taking leisurely drives around the countryside. He adored spending time with his family and had a special love for his grandchildren. He followed every activity and event they were involved in and loved every minute of it. Orrin had an impeccable memory for names and would go out of his way to greet both those he knew and did not know with a friendly smile and a strong handshake. He will be forever missed by those who loved and knew him. Orrin is survived by his wife Marilyn Berg Abbey, children Deborah Abbey, Karen (Greg) Walski, Merle (Bryan) Martinovich, Kathy (Kevin) Nelson, and Steven (Cherie) Abbey, grandchildren Karina, Kyle, Kate, Matthew, Abbey, Aaron, David, Jake, Sarah, Jordan, Jaymy, Blake, Beau, and Brad, 11 great-grandchildren, brother Kenneth, and many nieces and nephews. Orrin is also survived by Marilyn's children and grandchildren who were all very special to him. They are Loren (Nancy) Berg, Diane (Randy) Rapacz, Karen (Gary) Paulson, Annette (Randy) Gust, Darrin (Michelle) Berg, grandchildren Andrew, Matthew, Amanda, Shawn, Josh, Rachel, Samantha, Kayleigh, Tyler, Alexis, and 5 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Merle and Donna, and brother Sam. A celebration of Orrin’ s life will be held at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks, ND on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.

Annette grew up and attended school in Fisher, MN, graduating with the Class of 1976. Following high school she attended the East Grand Forks AVTI and Moorhead Technical Institute. She worked for numerous Insurance Agencies in Crookston, MN, East Grand Forks, MN and Grand Forks, ND. She most recently worked for Bremer Insurance in Grand Forks. Family members who survive Annette include her husband, Randy of East Grand Forks, MN; daughter, Samantha Gust of Fargo, ND and her mother, Marilyn Berg of Fisher, MN; siblings, Loran (Nancy) Berg of Plano, TX, Diane (Randy) Rapacz of East Grand Forks, MN, Karen (Gary) Paulson of Crookston, MN and Darrin (Michelle) Berg of Fisher, MN. Susan Lundhagen was born July 19, 1931, the daughter of Ole and Ercel Lundhagen, in Fosston, Minn., where she grew up, attended school and graduated from high school in 1950. She worked at Sessions Drug Store, Fosston. She married Erhart "Bud" Olson Aug. 30, 1952, in Fosston. They lived in Florida and South Dakota before moving to East Grand Forks in 1954. Survivors are her husband; daughters, Rebecca (Mrs. Lyle) Hangsleben and Pamela (Mrs. Gerald) Omlid, both of Grand Forks, and Jane (Mrs. Charles) Nelson, East Grand Forks; son, Mark, Catlett, Va.; eight grandchildren; mother, Fosston; sisters, Lois (Mrs. Richard) Wynne, Janice (Mrs. Donald) Macho and Dorothy (Mrs. Wayne) Paulson, all of Fosston, and Phyllis (Mrs. Dean) Viken, living in Georgia. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, and one hour before services. Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks. WINIFRED BURSTAD JOHNSON

Winifred Burstad Johnson, 88, Menomonie, Wis., formerly of Red Lake Falls, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, in Myrtle Werth Hospital, Menomonie. Winifred Louise Thompson was born Sept. 8, 1912, the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Maxson) Thompson, Huron, S.D. She married Edward Burstad on Nov. 15, 1933. They farmed near Plummer, Minn. Edward Burstad died Nov. 18, 1974. She moved to Plummer in 1977. She married Arthur Johnson on July 25, 1981. They moved to Red Lake Falls in 1984. Arthur Johnson died May 24, 1988. She moved to Menomonie in 1997. She is survived by a son, Eldon (Joan), Menomonie; daughters, Beverly (Erhart) Olson, Fisher, Minn., Althea Theroux, Tucson, Ariz., and Dolores (Gene) Battleson, Isle, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Leota Scheuring, New Hope, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Mary Thompson, Baltimore, Md. She was preceded in death by brothers, Harvey, Donald and Clayborn; a sister-in-law, Veronica Thompson; a brother-in-law, Al Scheuring; and a son-in-law, Gary Theroux. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Bethany Lutheran Church, Red Lake Falls. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Johnson Funeral Service, Red Lake Falls, and one hour before services in the church. Burial: Emardville Cemetery, Plummer, Minn.

She married Edward Burstad on November 15, 1933 in Gervais Township. They farmed near Plummer, MN. Edward died November 18, 1974. Winifred moved to Plummer, MN in 1977. She married Arthur Johnson on July 25, 1981. They moved to Red Lake Falls, MN in 1984. Arthur Johnson died on May 24, 1988. Winifred moved to Menomonie, WI in 1997. She is survived by her son, Eldon (Joan) Burstad, of Menomonie, WI; daughters Beverly (Erhart) Olson of Fisher, MN; Althea Theroux of Tucson, AZ and Dolores (Gene) Battleson of Isle, MN: sister Leota Scheuring of New Hope, MN; sister-in-law Mary Thompson of Baltimore, MD; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Edward Burstad and Arthur Johnson; brothers Harvey, Donald and Clayborn; sister-in-law Veronica Thompson; brother-in-law Al Scheuring and son-in-law Gary Theroux.
