Gene Lawrence Hoffman, a WWII Veteran in the Merchant Marines, passed away Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006. Gene attended William Penn Nixon Elementary School. He graduated from Kelvyn Park High School in 1944. Gene was an outstanding employee of the People's Gas Company Service Department for 40 years, retiring in 1988. When he wasn't working he was enjoying the game of golf year round. Gene is survived by his lifelong friend, Frances De Roche; sisters, Gloria Esther (Bob) Zielke of California and Margaret M. (late Donald) Buckman; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, from all parts of the country and world. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Jack and Raymond. Visitation at Herdegen-Brieske Funeral Home, 1356 W. Wellington Ave., 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral Thursday 9:15 a.m. from chapel to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Mass 10 a.m. Interment private. Gene was a caring son, brother and uncle. His kindness to all was extraordinary. Many years ago his dad called him "The Golden Boy with a million dollar smile." And Chicago was his kind of town. Married to Mildred "Millie" Demchuck: Born June 7, 1926, in the Village of River Grove, Leyden Twp., Cook Co., IL; Died June 6, 1997, in Chicago, Cook Co., IL (age 70). Buried in Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, DuPage Co., IL.
  4. Eugene Lawrence "Gene" Hoffman: Born September, 1926, in Chicago, Cook Co., IL; Died August 5, 2006, in Illinois (age 79). Married to Frances Unknown.
  5. Gloria Esther Hoffman: Born Unknown, Chicago, Cook Co., IL; Died Unknown. Married to Robert "Bob" Zielke.
  6. Margaret M. Hoffman: Born May 4, 1934, in Chicago, Cook Co., IL; Died January 21, 2009, in Unknown (age 74). Buried in Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove, Cook Co., IL. Married June 25, 1955, in Cook Co., IL, to Donald Charles "Don" Buckman: Born January 29, 1931, in Chicago, Cook Co., IL; Died February 5, 2002, in Unknown (age 71). Margaret M. Buckman, born Margaret Hoffman, age 74, passed away Jan. 21, 2009.

Devoted wife of the late Donald C. Buckman Sr.; loving mother of Gregory (Teresa) and the late Donald C. Buckman; dear sister of Gloria (Bob) Zielk, the late Jack Hoffman, the late Lawrence Hoffman, the late Raymond Hoffman (Millie) and the late Gene Hoffman (Frances); beloved aunt of Laura, Bob, David, Margaret, Carol Ann Micheal, Holly and the late Linda Hoffman.

Margaret Buckman was past President of St. Genevieve Alter and Rosary Society, board member of BSA Troop 150 and a dedicated member of the Illinois Telephone Pioneers.
