Well Known Woman Dies at Home of Her Daughter...

SPARTA, Wis., Feb. 3. - Mrs. Ann H. Wilson died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Shidell, on South Water street on Monday evening about seven o'clock from old age. Besides the daughter, she is survived by a son, Dr. W. H. Wilson, who has been in this city for several months to help care for his aged mother. There will be private services at the home this afternoon, and then Dr. Wilson will accompany the remains to the former home at Oakfield, Wis., where funeral services will be held and she will be buried by the side of her late husband.

Mrs. Ann Worthing Willson Shidell, for many years a resident of Byron township, died at 7 o'clock Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John L. Shidell, at Sparta. Beside her daughter she leaves one son, Dr. W. H. Willson, of this city; one grandson, Harry S. Willson, also of this city; one brother, James Worthing, of Fond du Lac; and many nephews and nieces, members of the several Worthing families of this city and Oakfield.

Mrs. Shidell is one of the pioneer residents of Leroy, Dodge county. She then resided in Byron township for many years until about fifteen years ago, when she went to Sparta to reside with her daughter.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church at Oakfield at 10:30 Thursday morning. Burial will be in the Avoca cemetery, beside her first husband, Joseph Willson, who died in October, 1867. The bearers will be E. P. Worthing, of this city, Charles Taylor, Frank Barbee and Frank Worthing, all of Oakfield.

The body will be accompanied to Oakfield by Dr. W. H. Willson. The daughter, Mrs. Shidell, will be unable to attend the funeral as she recently fractured her knee cap in a fall on a slippery walk.

Death Summons Much Esteemed Sparta Citizen

Alderman John L. Shidell Passed Away Suddenly Tuesday Night, August 8

Sparta was shocked by the announcement of the sudden death of Alderman John L. Shidell, which occurred at his home on South Water street, at about 9:00 o'clock Tuesday evening. He was apparently well and was sitting in his chair conversing with his wife, and he suddenly threw back his head and expired. Dr. V. W. Stiles was called and he responded to the summons immediately, but Mr. Shidell was dead before he arrived. Death was apparently due to some affectation of the heart. He had been in apparent good health, and during the day was about town as usual. Mr. Shidell was 75 years of age, and was born in New Jersey. He has been a resident of this city for many years and was engaged in the photograph business up to a few years ago, in partnership with the late Fred M. Foster, conducting the studio now occupied by Mr. Pope. In his sudden taking away, the city has lost a valued and esteemed citizen who can ill be spared. Definite arrangements for the funeral had not been made at the time of the printing of the Herald, awaiting the arrival of Dr. Wilson, Mrs. Shidell's brother. It is expected that the funeral will be held on Friday afternoon, Rev. J. S. Morris, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Mrs. Ellen Shidell Is Buried In City

Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Shidell were held at the Lanham mortuary here Sunday. Mrs. Shidell died Friday at Waupaca. The Shidells were old residents of Sparta, having lived here for many years. Mr. Shidell was a photographer in the firm of Foster and Shidell. The Rev. W. F. Tomlinson, Blue River, an old friend, officiated at the services. Interment was in the Woodlawn cemetery beside the grave of Mr. Shidell, who preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wilson, the former a nephew, came here from Fond du Lac for the services.

Wilson, who has been in this city for several months to help care for his aged mother. There will be private services at the home this afternoon, and then Dr. Wilson will accompany the remains to the former home at Oakfield, Wis., where funeral services will be held and she will be buried by the side of her late husband. Willson, This City - Funeral at Oakfield Thursday Mrs. Ann Worthing Willson Shidell, for many years a resident of Byron township, died at 7 o'clock Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John L. Shidell, at Sparta. Beside her daughter she leaves one son, Dr. W. H. Willson, of this city; one grandson, Harry S. Willson, also of this city; one brother, James Worthing, of Fond du Lac; and many nephews and nieces, members of the several Worthing families of this city and Oakfield. Mrs. Shidell is one of the pioneer residents of Leroy, Dodge county. She then resided in Byron township for many years until about fifteen years ago, when she went to Sparta to reside with her daughter. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church at Oakfield at 10:30 Thursday morning. Burial will be in the Avoca cemetery, beside her first husband, Joseph Willson, who died in October, 1867. Shidell died August 8, 1922, at his home in Sparta, Monroe Co., WI, at age 75. The Sparta Herald, Sparta, WI, Tuesday, August 8, 1922 Death Summons Much Esteemed Sparta Citizen Alderman John L. Shidell Passed Away Suddenly Tuesday Night, August 8 Sparta was shocked by the announcement of the sudden death of Alderman John L. Shidell, which occurred at his home on South Water street, at about 9:00 o'clock Tuesday evening. He was apparently well and was sitting in his chair conversing with his wife, and he suddenly threw back his head and expired. Dr. V. W. Stiles was called and he responded to the summons immediately, but Mr. Shidell was dead before he arrived. Death was apparently due to some affectation of the heart. He had been in apparent good health, and during the day was about town as usual. Mr. Shidell was 75 years of age, and was born in New Jersey. He has been a resident of this city for many years and was engaged in the photograph business up to a few years ago, in partnership with the late Fred M. Foster, conducting the studio now occupied by Mr. Pope. In his sudden taking away, the city has lost a valued and esteemed citizen who can ill be spared. Definite arrangements for the funeral had not been made at the time of the printing of the Herald, awaiting the arrival of Dr. Wilson, Mrs. Shidell's brother. The Sparta Herald, Monday, March 9, 1942 Mrs. Ellen Shidell Is Buried In City Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Shidell were held at the Lanham mortuary here Sunday. Mrs. Shidell died Friday at Waupaca. The Shidells were old residents of Sparta, having lived here for many years. Mr. Shidell was a photographer in the firm of Foster and Shidell. The Rev. W. F. Tomlinson, Blue River, an old friend, officiated at the services. Interment was in the Woodlawn cemetery beside the grave of Mr. Shidell, who preceded her in death.
