ARTHUR GILBY TO JOIN COLORS

Port Arthur Man Visiting With Relatives in City Before Enlisting.

Arthur Gilby of Port Arthur is spending a few days in Grand Forks as a guest of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gilby, 521 North Sixth street, before leaving for Winnipeg, where he will enlist in the regiment being formed in that city to be sent to the front in about three weeks. Mr. Gilby is a civil engineer and will endeavor to obtain a position in the army of construction work. Mr. Gilby states that the patriotic sentiment of the Canadians is strong and that all able-bodied men are practically forced into service through public feeling. Those who have not already joined the colors are very unpopular and are daily forced to answer hundreds of questions as to reasons for not being at the front. He will leave in a few days for his home at Port Arthur to make preparations to depart, and will then proceed to Winnipeg, where the regiment is being formed. Hundreds of available men are now preparing to leave.
