The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Polk Co., IA, January 26, 1975
Last September and October, a former manager of Ft. Madison's DuPont paint plant, Cloud H. Thompson of Wever, near Fort Madison, did his first tour with IESC, in the industrial city of Monterrey, Mexico. Thompson retired from his DuPont job in June, 1973, after 47 years of service. In Monterrey, he counseled a paint firm that wanted to improve its output and efficiency and whose executives were considering building a new plant. Thompson studied the plant's equipment and formulas and came up with recommendations that improved production and efficiency without building a new facility, a saving of $3 million. From short-range observation of the program, Thompson thinks it works. "Basically, these people going into depressed areas have been a lot of help, and people there have learned a lot from the program," he said. Thompson and Dr. Peterson share a common approach to volunteer duty in the executive corps. Neither retired man is interested in letting that ol' rockin' chair get him.
