DEATH OF AN AGED CITIZEN

John Ash, A Pioneer, Passes Away At His Home In This Place — Deceased Was An Invalid For Several Years — Funeral At M. E. Church

FUNERAL WAS HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON

John Ash, an aged and respected citizen, passed away at the family home in this place shortly after 7 o'clock Thursday evening, following a prolonged illness. Some four years ago the deceased was stricken with paralysis. His whole left side was affected. As time went on other similar strokes followed still further reducing his physical and metal being until he became practically a helpless invalid. During the long and weary months his constant companion was his daughter, Mrs. D. R. Randall, who cared for him with a tender devotion that is the fruit only of a daughter's affection and love. The ceaseless vigil occupied her whole time and attention to the exclusion of all other things and all other considerations. What sacrifices it meant and what sacrifices it involved may never be known. If recompense comes it will be with the consciousness of duty well performed and in the satisfaction of being permitted to contribute to the comfort of a loved parent in his declining years and his last days. This is a great privilege notwithstanding its trials and perplexities, it heartaches and sorrows.

On the Sunday morning preceding his death, Mr. Ash was found to be in a dying condition. His entire body seemed to be paralyzed and it was apparent that the end was not far off. He fell into a comatose condition from which he did not rally until the end came.

Mr. Ash was born at Sommersetshire, England, 76 years ago. He came from a family of fourteen children all of whom passed away when they were young, with the exception of three brothers and one sister. When 21 years of age Mr. Ash came to America, a brother and sister having preceded him and the other following soon after. He settled in Wisconsin where he remained four years when he came to Minnesota where he located six miles northwest of Janesville. Here he developed a fine farm. After coming to Minnesota he married Olive Elizabeth Fuller. Eight children were born to them, four dying in infancy. He moved to Janesville eight years ago. His wife died two years ago. The surviving children are: Mrs. M. B;. Randall, Mrs. D. R. Randall, and Mrs. E. Orcutt. He leaves also two brothers, R. Ash, of this place, and Joseph Ash of Greenland, and fourteen grandchildren to mourn his loss.

In his life Mr. Ash reflected the man of stern integrity, uprightness of character and a reputation untarnished before the world.
The funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon at the M. E. Church, Rev. W. I,. Kern, officiating.

The remains were laid to rest in the Janesville cemetery (Cedar Hill Cemetery - sic).
