Robert Gilby was a brakeman or conductor on
the Michigan Central and lived in this city from 1873 until 1879. His widow,
Mary, is now living in Marshfield, Oregon. She is eligible to receive an old age
pension but under the Oregon laws it is necessary to prove continuous residence
as a citizen of the United States. This has been proved to the satisfaction of
Oregon pension officials with the exception of the period of Mr. Gilby's
residence in Marshall, Michigan. Michigan Central officials are trying to help
in securing the desired information and if anyone remembers the man and can make
affidavit to his having resided here or can give any information whatever
regarding him, it is requested they communicate with Martin F. Ryan, Michigan
Central ticket agent.
