1. NOTE: The Quakers rejected using the common names of the week and the months since most of the names are derived from pagan gods. Consequently, First Day is Sunday, Second Day is Monday, etc. Using our modern calendar, January is First Month, February is Second Month, etc. When researching your ancestors before 1752 be aware of the change from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. This will effect how dates are written in Quaker records. Using the Julian calendar, the year began on March 25th (First Month) and so February was the 12th month. Using the present calendar, after 1752, January is the First Month and December is the 12th Month. Some dates will have a double date: the first date will be the Julian year, the second will be the Gregorian.
