Council Bluffs, Ia., July 8. - Mrs. Mary Alice Snavely of Lincoln was married here, late yesterday afternoon to James W. Edenburn of Council Bluffs, a retired contractor, who now admits to seventy summers. His bride from Lincoln was 49 years old, she told Judge Cooper, who performed the ceremony. Both had been married before.

EDENBURN - GUNN

Chesley S. Gunn, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Gunn 1809 No. 33rd Street, Lincoln, Nebraska, was united in marriage to Miss Emma Edenburn of Lincoln, Nebr. Sunday, March 1st at St. Louis, Mo., the ceremony being performed by Rev. Chester Ezekiel Jenny, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of that city. Immediately after the ceremony which took place at 12:30 P. P. wedding dinner was served at the home of Attorney and Mrs. Schofield of that city with whom Chesley became acquainted through his son Buddy while overseas, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Schofield. The groom is attending the David Rankin Trade School in St. Louis where he was transferred last summer after having taken a course at the Lincoln Business College and a year at the State University. His work is that of architecture and draughting and he has one more year before completing the course. Miss Edenburn is a high school graduate of the Superior class of 1917. She then completed a course at the Lincoln Business College. It was while attending school here the bride and groom became acquainted. After completing her schooling she immediately accepted a stenographic position with the firm of Gold & Co. in their credit department which position she held continuously the past year and a half. They will make their home in St. Louis until the end of the groom's schooling and have taken an apartment at 4225 Westminster Place, St. Louis. The many friends of the groom here at Bladen will join us in extending congratulations and well wishes for their future happiness.

Bernard R. Buchholz (Barney), born in Glenwood, Minnesota in 1922, died in his home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on August 9, 2005. Barney grew up in Clarksville, Iowa and attended Wartburg College, in Waverly, Iowa. He joined the Army during WWII, and was selected to be part of the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) at William and Mary College in Virginia. Following this program, he was assigned to the 28th Fighter Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Force in Panama. After the war, Barney lived in Denver, Colorado and graduated from the University of Denver, Daniels College of Business. Following graduation, he was general manager of Daniels and Fisher Department store in downtown Denver. Early in the space program Barney joined the Martin Marietta Corporation. In 1973 he transferred to the Martin Marietta’s Michoud Facility in New Orleans and was the Materials Manager for the Space Shuttle external tank project. He retired in Slidell, LA in 1986 after 26 years of service with the company. Barney was preceded in death by his wife LaVon Buchholz, as well as four brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, BenAlice G. Buchholz, three children, Douglas Buchholz of Slidell, La., Lance Buchholz of Biloxi, MS, and Ruselle Buchholz Guice of Denver, CO. His family also includes step children, Leigh Farron Buckner of Jackson, MS and Ashley Farron McWilliams of Atlanta, GL, as well as seven grand children. He is also survived by his brother Marvin Buchholz of Heidleburg, Germany, and two sisters, Madelyn Yarcho of Mt. Vernon, Washington, and Sandra Rodenbeck of Shell Rock, Iowa. A Memorial Service was held in his church home, Court Street United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg, MS on Friday, August 12 at 3:00 p.m. A memorial has been established in his name at Court Street United Methodist Church, 609 Southern Avenue, Hattiesburg, MS 39401.

J. L. Edenburn, 64, Is Buried Friday

Funeral services were held at 4:30   p.m. Friday for James Lawrence Edenburn, 64, 507 Neil St., who died Thursday morning in a Temple hospital. Services were held at Heartfield Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Edwin Johnson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in North Belton Cemetery with T. A. Moore, Ray Bridges, William Langston, Arthur Prinz, Gilbert Johnson and Julius Glazener as pallbearers. Mr. Edenburn was born in Superior, Nebr., April 2, 1900, and was a civil service employee for 23 years.  He was a member of the Baptist Church, a Boy Scout leader and a veteran of World War I. He had lived in Belton for 11 years. Surviving are his wife, two sons, James L. Edenburn Jr., of Fort Polk, La., and Jack Allen Edenburn of Belton, and one daughter, Jo Ellen Edenburn, also of Belton.

Mrs. Emma May (Eddie) Gunn - A native of Smyrna, Nebraska and a resident of Mobile since 1942 died at the Mercy Medical in Daphne, AL on Tuesday, December 8, 1987. She was the widow of Chesley S. Gunn, a member of the Central Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Ben Alice) Buchholz, Pass Christian, MS; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and other relatives. GARRETT - Harriet "Jayne", 89, longtime Muskogee resident and widow of Howard L. Garrett, died June 7, 2008, at Senior Suites in Broken Arrow, OK. Jayne was born in El Paso, TX, to Mark L. and Cassie Griffith on September 12, 1918. She grew up in Muskogee and spent much of her childhood and teenage years on G and East Broadway Streets near the downtown area. Jayne was educated in the Muskogee public school system and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1936. As a young woman, Jayne worked as a journalist and wrote a "Dear Abby" type advice column for The Muskogee Phoenix, and continued her studies at Draughn's Business College. Jayne also worked as fashion model for Susman's Clothing on Broadway Street in Muskogee. While at Ridge Crest Baptist Church Camp in North Carolina, Jayne received a proposal of marriage from Howard Garrett. The young couple rendezvoused in Little Rock, AR and married there on July 27, 1940. They made their home in Muskogee and remained faithful members of The First Baptist Church. Jayne taught Sunday School for young couples and young women, especially nursing students from the Baptist Hospital system and Bacone College. Jayne managed her husband's business for many years, but always saw her true career as a homemaker and a mother. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed watching her children grow up and become the individuals they are today. Jayne and other members of First Baptist Church went to Israel in 1973 and during the trip, Mrs. Thompson, head of the social services department encouraged Jane to work for The Department of Human Services. At the age of 56, Jayne embarked on a new career as a welfare caseworker for the State of Oklahoma. Mrs. Garrett was civic and Christian minded throughout her life and served on the Salvation Army Auxiliary Board of Directors and occupied the position of Chaplain. Her social life was also important to her, and was active in numerous bridge clubs and activities at Kate Frank Apartments, where she lived since 1995. She was also a member of the "Special Friends Sewing and Lunch Group". This provided her an opportunity to catch up with good friends and enjoy a great love for mending things. Jayne will be remembered as a friendly, wonderful hostess with a gracious, genteel, southern charm. Her close friends and church family will dearly miss her. Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of 57 years, Howard L. Garrett; 1 sister, Ann Eisenstein; and 2 brothers, Joel W. Griffith, and Mark L. Griffith. She is survived by: her sister, Lois Butler of Rio Rancho, NM; brother, Norris and wife Iva Jean Griffith of Norman, OK, and sister-in-law, Virginia Lee Garrett of Muskogee. She is also survived by: son, David Mitchell Garrett and wife, Kathy of Tulsa; and daughter, Susan Jane Hickman of Broken Arrow, OK. Also surviving are her grand- children, Mitchell Garrett and wife Amber of Tulsa, Elizabeth Linhart and husband, Neil of Dallas, TX, Joshua Garrett and wife, Laura of Sand Springs, OK, Sarah Jane Garrett of Norman, OK, Sarah Kathrine Beard of Tulsa, OK, Melissa Burnett and husband Jason of Washington, D.C., Robert Mileff of Washington D.C., Daniel Hickman, of Tulsa, Paul Hickman and wife Marcie of Chapel Hill, N.C., William Hickman and wife, Shelley of Norman, OK, and Cindy Banks of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Service will be at 1:30p.m., Tuesday, June 10, at First Baptist Church Chapel with the Reverend Martin Hawley officiating, her nephew. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on Monday, June 9, at Foster-Petering Funeral Home in Muskogee, OK. Interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Muskogee. Ada Ethel (Patterson) Edenburn had a son, Wilbur E. Edenburn: Born born May 7, 1920, in Arkansas; Died November 21, 1931, in Arkansas, at age 11. Buried in Oak Cemetery, Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., AR.

  1. Emma May "Eddie" Edenburn: Born February 20, 1899, in Nuckolls Co., NE; Died December 8, 1987, at Mercy Medical, City of Daphne, Baldwin Co., AL (age 88). Buried in Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Mobile Co., AL. Married March 1, 1925, in Nebraska to Chesley Spence Gunn: Born April 3, 1894, in Bladen, Webster Co., NE; Died July 29, 1966, in Mobile, Mobile Co., AL (age 72). Buried in Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Mobile Co., AL.

 

 

Chesley and Emma (Edinburn) Gunn

Chesley, eldest son of Charles and Minnie Gunn, was a corporal in the U.S. Army and served in France in World War I. Chesley was in training as a member of Co. K of the National Guard of Blue Hill at a Camp in New Mexico and went to overseas service from there. Returning home at war's end, he was married on March 1, 1925 to Emma Edenburn, whose birth date is Feb. 20, 1899. Chesley worked at the trade of a steam-fitter in Lincoln and continued that work when he and his wife moved to Pass Christian, Miss. and from there to Jackson, Miss. Later moving to Mobile, Ala., Chesley held a civilian post with the Corps of Army Engineers.

Two children were born to Chesley and Emma. They are:

Eugene Meredith, born April 19, 1926 at Pane Christian

Ben Alice, born July 31, 1929 at Pass Christian

Following graduation from the Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, N.Y., Eugene served in, the U.S. Navy. He now has a captain's rating.

On Sept. 26, 1948 Eugene and Carolyn Constan were married. Carolyn's birth date is Sept. 30, 1926. The Eugene Gunns are parents of two children, Carolyn Jean, born May 19, 1950, and Debra, born Aug. 31, 1958. The family now lives at Birmingham, Ala.

Ben Alice was married Nov. 24, 1954 to Maurice Farron, whose birth date is March 16, 1924. They are parents of two children, Leigh, born Jan. 3, 1956, and Ashley, born Jan. 23, 1965.

Maurice Farron served in the U.S. Coast Guard out of Charleston, S.C. The Farrons now live at 111 N. Cordal Dr., Slidell, La. 70458.

Chesley Gunn died July 29, 1966 at Mobile, Ala. and is buried there. Emma lives at 2307 Churchill Ave., Mobile, Ala. 36606.
