He is the son of Bernhard "Bernard" Bastian of Hatten, Bas-Rhin (Upper Rhine), Grand Est, Alsace Region, France, and Margueritha Werner of Hatten, Bas-Rhin (Upper Rhine), Grand Est, Alsace Region, France.

Margaretha "Margaret" Scheidel was born April 13, 1825, in the Village of Croettwiller, Crœttwiller, Bas-Rhin (Upper Rhine), Grand Est, Alsace Region, France, and died February 27, 1895, in South Byron, Byron Twp., Fond du Lac Co., WI, at age 69. Buried in Saint John Catholic Cemetery, Byron, Fond du Lac Co., WI. She is the daughter of Michel Scheidel of Croettwiller, Bas-Rhin, Lorraine, France, and Catharine "Ann" Gander of Alsace-Lorraine, France.

  2. Mary G. Bastian: Born June 8, 1850, in Rockaway Twp., Morris Co., NJ; Died February 18, 1897, in Waupun, Fond du Lac Co., WI (age 46). Buried in Avoca Cemetery, Oakfield, Fond du Lac Co., WI. Married February 24, 1874, in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Co., WI, to Davis G. Katie was a married Laborer, in her second marriage, and with all 4 of the children born to her still alive, and is living in Hot Springs, Fall River Co., SD. Kate Cheney was a widow living in Greybull, Big Horn Co., WY, in 1920. In 1925, Kitty Grace (age 67) born in Wisconsin is listed as a widow Methodist living in South Dakota. James then married about 1893 in Wisconsin to Bridget E. Doyle (born December 23, 1854, in Kaukauna, WI; Died July 9, 1940, in Kimberly, WI, at age 86, Buried in St. Peter's Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI).

George Bastian set up a trust estate fund, effective upon his death, in the amount of $1,000 for the lifetime of his daughter, Louisa Bastian, which became funded when he died in 1892. Louisa Bastian is said to have been a dwarf, and could not read or write.

JAMES J. GRACE DIES

Resident of Oshkosh for Over Forty Years Passes Away - Funeral Services to be Saturday

James J. Grace died Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at his home, 81 Waugoo street. Death was caused by the infirmities of old age. Mr. Grace was born in the state of New York, June 15, 1851. He had been a resident of Oshkosh for forty years. The deceased had been a member of the congregation of St. Peter's Catholic church and was also a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, Branch No. 4. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. John Agnew, of Cadott, Wis., and Sister M. Josephine of the Sisters of St. Francis at Bear Creek, Wis. He is also survived by one brother, Matthew F. Grace; and one sister, Mrs. Peter McConville, of Cadott; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Peter's Catholic church. A solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated with Rev. William Grace, of Maple Grove, Wis., a nephew of the deceased, as celebrant. Friends wishing to view the remains may do so at the Fiss & Bills funeral home until the hour of the service.

OBITUARY

GRACE - Funeral services for James J. Grace were held this morning at 9 o'clock at St. Peter's Catholic church. A solemn requlera high mass was celebrated with Rev. William Grace of Maple Grove, a nephew of the deceased, as celebrant. Rev. Thomas McCann of Ladysmith was deacon and Rev. J. Quigley was subdeacon. Rev. J. C. Hogan was the master of ceremonies. The pallbearers were James Grace, Matthew Grace, Peter Zantner, Thomas McCann, William Lennon and Mat McCue. A short prayer service was held at the Fiss & Bills funeral home 8:30 o'clock. Interment was a Riverside cemetery.
