ABBE BIOGRAPHY
AS RECORDED IN:
Looking for any information regarding our branch of the Abbe/Abbey/Abby family of New York. My great grandfather, Reuben ABBEY, listed below, was born in Upstate NY, and he brought this family bible with him to Missouri in the 1870's when he left for California. When he arrived in Missouri he married Mary Elizabeth COX, and they remained in Missouri. Since Reuben ABBEY was the youngest child in the family, and born in NY, I'm hoping that the other folks recorded in this bible have NY connections also.
From the Abbey family bible:
1 Eli ABBE b. April 12,1820; d. 1884 ...+ Rachel FERGUSON b. 1825; d. ? ......2 Sarah M. Jane ABBEY b. 1841; m. William HYDE ......2 Edwin Porter ABBEY b. abt. 1843; m. Ellen ALLCOTT ......2 Hannah Isabelle ABBEY b. 1844; m. Robert JOHNSON ......2 William E. ABBEY b. 1846 (nothing further known) ......2 Mary Triphena/Martriphena ABBEY b. 1858; m. Meeker CULVER/Culver MEEKER ......2 Reuben Ferguson ABBEY b. 1855; m. Mary Elizabeth COX.
Eli ABBE b. 1820, had a sister listed in the bible also. She was Triphena ABBE b. Aug. 31, 1817.
On the page where the birth date of Eli & Triphena ABBE are recorded, grouped with them are dates of birth for 4 persons with the surname "Rogers". It appears that they may have been half siblings to Eli & Triphena, but I am not yet sure of the relationship. They were:
1. Susannah ROGERS b. 1803 2. Hiram ROGERS b. 1806 3. William ROGERS b. 1808 4. Marvin ROGERS b. 1809
Also....there is information regarding what appears to be the brother of Rachel (FERGUSON) ABBE. It says:
Reuben FERGUSON was murdered June 10, 1856 - age, 35 years, 14 months, 9 days. There is also a death date for Jane FERGUSON. She was probably the spouse of Reuben. Jane FERGUSON died February 14/15/18 (no year given), age - 73/93 years, 8 months, 2 days.
The bible may have originally belonged to someone named Matilda KING. Her name is written across the top of the first page of recordings, and it is written much larger than any other name in the bible. The edge of the page is torn away, but what I can read says:
Matilda KING born July 29, 17??
There is a death date recorded for Matilda BROTHERTON - died September 24/29, 1839.....but I do not know if this is in regards to "Matilda KING".
I hope that someone finds something in this information that will connect with their ABBE/ABBEY/ABBY family. Thank you for any information.
