Following a stroke of paralysis, Mrs. Arabella Karns, the well-known undertaker and funeral director of Loysburg, passed away at 2 o'clock Monday morning, December 19. Deceased was born in Blair county June 22, 1853, and was aged 57 years, five months and 27 days. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters and one son: Sarah J. at home, Mrs. E. Benner of Hopewell, and James D. of Connellsville. Mrs. Karns was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and had many friends, being of a hospitable disposition. The funeral took place on Wednesday, December 21, at 11 a. m., when services were held in the Loysburg Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. A. Mattern, of Martinsburg. Interment was made in the Loysburg Cemetery.

GEORGE W. KARNS
A retired undertaker of Loysburg, Bedford county, died at his home at 3:10 o'clock this morning of a complication of diseases after an illness of over a year. He was aged 66 years and 10 months. He was in business in Loysburg for many years, but was compelled to retire in 1915 owing to ill health. Three children, Mrs. William Bennett of Yellow Creek, James of Chicago Junction, O., and Miss Sarah, at home, survive. His wife died eight years ago. He was a member of the Loysburg Methodist church and also of the Roaring Spring lode of Odd Fellows at Woodbury. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his late home, in charge of Rev. Mr. Ash, a former pastor of the Loysburg Methodist church. Interment will be made in Loysburg.

JOHN JAMES BLAKE.
John James Blake, a prominent resident of Roaring Spring, died suddenly at his home Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, death being due to heart trouble. He had not been in good health for more than a year but was feeling better for some time. On Sunday afternoon Mr. Blake went into the living room of his home and sat down in a chair. His wife followed him into the room shortly afterward and found him sitting in the chair, cold in death. He was the son of James and Sarah Blake, both deceased, and was born at Yellow Creek, Bedford county, January 12, 1859. He resided at Yellow Creek until 1903, when he became a resident of Roaring Spring. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Henrietta Fisher, to whom he was married on December 16, 1879. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Samuel Kegarise, of Roaring Spring. On July 21, 1887, he was united in marriage with Miss Martha Jennie Barclay, who survives, with these children: John Blake, at home; Mrs. R. C. Kauffman and J. Harrison Blake, of Roaring Spring, and Miss Mary Blake, a professional nurse of Detroit, Mich. Mr. Blake was a bricklayer by trade and was a competent workman and his services were much in demand. He was a member of the union and of Christ Reformed church.

Living with her is her widowed mother, Jennie M. Blake (age 60) born in Pennsylvania to Pennsylvania-born parents.

Mrs. Martha Jennie Blake, widow of John J. Blake, died Sunday, 5 a. m. of complications at the home of her step-daughter, Mrs. S. C. Kagarise, 423 Walnut street, Roaring Spring, after a long illness. Mrs. Blake was a daughter of Joseph and Isabel Barkley, born at Woodbury, July 15, 1869 and came to Roaring Spring after her marriage to Mr. Blake, July 21, 1887. Resident of Roaring Spring for the past twenty-seven years, died at the home of Samuel C. Kagarise, 423 Walnut street, at 5 o'clock Sunday morning of complications following an illness of more than two years. , after a long illness. She was the widow of John J. Blake and was born July 15, 1869, at Woodbury, the daughter of Joseph and Isabelle Barkley, both deceased. She was united in marriage to John J. Blake July 21, 1887, and came to the borough during the year 1903. She was a member of the Christ Reformed church and a member of the Ladies Bib le club of the Reformed Sunday school. She is survived by the following sons and daughters: J. H. and J. C. Blake of Altoona; Mrs. R. P. Kauffman of Roaring Spring and Mary B. Blake of Detroit, Mich.; one step-daughter Mrs. S. C. Kagarise of Roaring Spring, also the following brothers: Harry Barkley of Williamsburg; Samuel Barclay and Simon Barkley of New York city. JAMES D. KARNS
A native of Loysburg, died suddenly yesterday at his home in Willard, O. He was born on Oct. 19, 1881, a son of George W. and Arabella (Blake) Karns, and had been employed as an engineer on the B. & O. railroad for the past thirty years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Maude (Little) Karns, six children and two sisters, Mrs. W. F. Benner and Miss Sarah Karns, both of Loysburg. He was a member of the Methodist church. Funeral services will be held at Willard on Saturday. Interment will be made there.

Miss Margarite Mills, daughter of H. A. Mills of Martin street, Bellwood, was married to Mr. John C. Blake of Altoona. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. George E. Baughman in Cumberland, Md., on Wednesday. The bridegroom is employed in the Pennsylvania railroad shops in Altoona and the bride is a teacher in the Antis township schools at Bellwood. The newlyweds will take up housekeeping in their newly-furnished apartment at 410 Second street, Juniata.

Of 2401 Third avenue, a clerk in the car shop general foreman's office, Altoona works, died suddenly at his home at 9:30 o'clock Saturday night. He was born in Loysburg on Aug. 14, 1888, a son of John James and Jennie (Barclay) Blake. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Froste M. (Gates) Blake; two sons and one daughter, James Roger and David Neil, both of the city, and Mrs. Shirley M. Schumacher, at home; three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Samuel Kegarise and Mrs. R. P. Of 423 Walnut street, Roaring Spring, died at 7:30 o'clock last evening at his home. Mr. Kagarise was born Aug. 27, 1876, at New Enterprise, a son of Jacob R. and Elizabeth (Calahan) Kagarise. He leaves his wife, the former Rosella Blake, whom he married Dec. 25, 1908, at Loysburg; one daughter, Mrs. Louise McIntire of Roaring Spring and two brothers, Andrew C. and Jacob C. of Loysburg. A veteran of the Spanish-American war, he served for two years in the Philippines. He was a member of Adm. Dewey camp erans, of Altoona and Ray-Camp 86, Spanish-American War Veterans V.F.W. post of Roaring Spring. A mail carrier in Roaring Spring borough, Mr. Kagarise retired in 1937. Her husband, Samuel, whom she married Dec. 25, 1908, at Loysburg, died July 13, 1956. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Louise McIntire of Roaring Spring, and one sister and one brother, Miss Mary of Detroit, Mich., and John Blake of Bellwood. A guest of the United Presbyterian Home, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Eldorado, Box 180, RD 2, died at 1:45 a.m. today, Nov. 16, 1975, at the home following a brief illness. She was born March 21, 1887, at Roaring Spring, a daughter of David M. and Channa (Worth) Gates, and married James H. Blake, who died in 1942. Surviving are two children, J. Roger of Eldorado and Mrs. Shirle Groebe of Pompano Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Blake was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church. MARGARET M. BLAKE
72, of Box 217, Tyrone RD2, died unexpectedly at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 1980, at her home. Mrs. Blake retired as an elementary school teacher from the Bellwood-Antis School District after 41 years of service. She was born May 16, 1908, in Bellwood, the daughter of Harvey and Rhoda (O'Neil) Mills, and in 1937, married John C. Blake, who died November 6, 1959. Surviving are a brother, Alfred of Bellwood, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Blake was a member of the Logan Valley Presbyterian Church, Bellwood. She was an active volunteer worker at the Hollidaysburg Presbyterian Home. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Teachers and Bellwood Homemakers, and was a graduate of Juniata College, Huntingdon.
