Helmar J. "Carl" Carlson, 65, chief train dispatcher for the Nickel Plate Railroad, died early yesterday morning at the family home, 501 Rex street, after an extended illness. He was born in Ford County, near Paxton, Ill., and came to Muncie about 19 years ago when the offices of the Nickel Plate were consolidated. Mr. Carlson had been chief dispatcher of the railroad for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge and Knights Templar, all of Lafayette, Indiana. Surviving are the widow, Ninnie; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Burt of Winchester, and Miss Ruth Carlson, at home; two brothers, Nelse Carlson of Clarence, Ill., and Charles Carlson of Rankin, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Gus Lyons of Hamilton, Ind., and Mrs. William Mulcshey of Indianapolis, and two grandsons, Stephen Burt and Stanton Carlson Burt. Funeral services will be conducted at the Meeks mortuary at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Lewis W. Gishler in charge. Burial will be in Black Cemetery, near Albany. Friends may call at the mortuary from 3 until 5 o'clock and from 7 until 9 o'clock Saturday or prior to the services on Sunday.

Mrs. Alice Gale Carlson, 75, widow of Helman John Carlson, 1218 N. Walnut St., died at Ball Hospital Sunday, after illness of several months. Born in Paxton, Ill., Mrs. Carlson came to Muncie from Lafayette in 1932. Her husband died in June, 1951. He was the former chief train dispatcher for the Nickel Plate Railroad. Mrs. Carlson was a member of the Eastern Star and the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Constance C. Burt, RR 3, Muncie, and Miss Ruth Gale Carlson, at home, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Meeks Mortuary with Rev. E. O. Norquist officiating. Burial will be in Black Cemetery, northeast of Muncie. Friends may call at the mortuary after 4 p.m. Monday or before the services Tuesday.

MUNCIE--Constance Carlson Burt, 89, beloved by her family, passed away Sunday morning, June 24, 2012 at Morrison Woods Health Campus. Connie was born in Lafayette on January 27, 1923, the daughter of Alice (Bickett) and Helmar John Carlson. The family moved to Muncie in 1933 and she graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1941. Connie then attended Ball State College where she was introduced to her future husband, Frederick W. Burt. She traveled by train to Boston, Massachusetts where she married Fred on May 23, 1944 before her left to serve overseas in the Navy during World War II. They were wed for 62 years until his death in 2006. Fred and Connie were devoted to each other and set an example of love and faithfulness for their children and grandchildren. Connie was a charter member of the Royerton Homemakers Club, the RSL Club and, in the past, served on the Tuberculosis Association Board of Directors. In her life, she attended Eaton First Church of God and Eden Church. She found great strength and comfort in her faith. A favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 41:10. She had two sisters who preceded in her death, Catherine, an infant, and Ruth Gale Carlson. Survivors include her four children and spouses, Steve (Jan) Burt of Greenfield, Stan (Colleen) Burt of Carmel, Terri (Brad) Camp of North Manchester, and Stacey (Linda) Burt of Eaton. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Chris and Craig (Emily) Burt, Andy, Rachel, Justin and Emily Burt, Ryan and Steven Camp, Jordan (Daniel) Vaughn and Jared Burt, and three great-grandchildren, Kale Burt, and Tanner and Ainsley Vaughn. Connie's greatest joy and pleasure came from the time she spent with her family. She loved to cook and care for her children and grandchildren. She found her purpose, not in being the center of attention, but in taking care of others. Her family is her legacy. We wish to thank Dee Reynolds and Jeannie Kirkwood who allowed her to remain independent and in her home. We also wish to express our appreciation to the loving and caring staff at Morrison Woods who helped us to fulfill our desire to care for our mother since February. Services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Eden Church, 11205 N. St. Rd. 3, Muncie. Burial will follow in Black Cemetery of Albany. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

John LeRoy Mooney Passes in Storm Lake
NEMAHA - John LeRoy Mooney, 68, passed away Tuesday morning at the Shepard Nursing Home following a long illness. Son of the late Wm. J. and Isabelle Mooney, he was born August 1st, 1885 on a farm northeast of Sac City where he grew to manhood and where he attended rural school at number 5, Douglas township.
He was married to Mrs. George Bickett of Hoopeston, Illinois, on August 22nd, 1927. They resided on the home place farming with his father until 1931 when they bought a farm three miles north of Nemaha. Failing health caused him to leave the farm when they moved to Storm Lake where he resided until his death. He had been a patient at the Shepard Nursing home for the past 1 1/2 years.
Mr. Mooney is survived by his wife, two step-daughters, Veta Gale Armstrong of Detroit, Michigan, and Barbara Jean Summers of Fair Child, Washington, a brother, A. B. Mooney of Sac City, three nephews, Kenneth and Harold Mooney of Nemaha and Robert Mooney of Long Beach, California, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
He became a member of the Christian church in Sac City at an early age. On moving to Nemaha he became affiliated with the Methodist church there. He was a faithful attendant as long as his health permitted.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. C.R. Buckwalter officiating. Mrs. Virginia Madsen was soloist. Internment was in Buena Vista Memorial cemetery. Bearers were Sidney Jeckell, Charles Girardin, Harold Lundberg, John Andrews, Gordon Jeckell and Wilbur Patton. Relatives and friends extend their sympathy to Mrs. Mooney and family in their bereavement.

MUNCIE - Frederick Wingate Burt, 83, loving husband, father and grandfather, Muncie, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 30, 2006 at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born in Muncie, August 22, 1922, the son of Martha (Wingate) Burt and David Frederick Burt. Fred grew up in Muncie and was graduated from Royerton High School. He married Constance Carlson on May 23rd, 1944 in Boston, Massachusetts and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. He received his Bachelors Degree in 1947 and his Masters Degree in 1958 from Ball State Teacher's College. Mr. Burt began his teaching career as an industrial arts teacher in Winamac, Indiana. In 1953 he joined the staff at Wilson Middle School and later taught at the Muncie Trade School. Mr. Burt served as Supervisor and Coordinator of Industrial Education and worked as the Consultant for Federal Programs until 1971 when he became Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent. He retired in 1985. Mr. Burt was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WW II as a Naval Gunnery Officer in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He received the American Theater Ribbon; the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with three Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Stars. He gave to his community in many ways. He served on the Delaware Community School Board during the time of consolidation. For his Lord, he taught Sunday School for many years and served on multiple church boards. His memberships include the Eaton First Church of God; the ICVA; AVA; IVA; AASA; past State President of IAPSAE; was Program Presenter, Project 21, on the Governor's Conference on Occupational Education; Charter Member of the Indiana Community Education Association; a member of Epsilon Pi Tau and Phi Delta Kappa honorary fraternities and was involved in many civic groups. Survivors include his wife, Constance (Carlson) Burt, Muncie; four children, Stephen Burt (Janet), Greenfield; Stanton Burt (Colleen), Carmel; Terri Camp (Brad), North Manchester and Stacey Burt (Linda), Eaton; one brother, Joseph Burt (Helen), Florida; one sister, Dona Graham, Florida; a sister-in-law, Jane Burt, Muncie; ten grandchildren, Chris Burt; Andrew Burt; Craig Burt; Rachel Burt; Jordan Burt; Justin Burt; Ryan Camp; Jared Burt; Emily Burt and Steven Camp and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Burt and Max Burt and three sisters, Samantha Darst; Wahneta Kovash and Isabel Hazzard. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Eaton First Church of God, Eaton, Indiana with Pastor Steve DeLisle officiating. Burial will follow in the Black Cemetery. Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Muncie, Indiana, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday or after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. BICKETT ROBERT February 24, 2016. Age 89 of Allen Park. Robert was preceded in death by his parents George and Anna Bickett and his siblings Helen Farrar, Virginia Langert, and Geraldine Chandonnet. Also survived by six nieces, one nephew, and one great-niece. Robert will be deeply missed by family and friends and his three caregivers.
