John C BAKER was born in Wakefield, Michigan on June 1, 1918; son of Albert and Catherine (DOLAK) BAKER. He attended school at Oshkoch, WI and later moved to Belle Plaine, IA, where he graduated from High School. On July 5, 1947, He married Dolores PRUSHA at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chelsea. They made their home in Chelsea and in 1948 they moved to Traer when John started employment with Funks Seed Co. They lived at 2807 Hwy 8 and John remained at Funks as a manager for 43 years until his retirement. During his morning walk John became ill suddenly and was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo where he died Tuesday, November 7, 1995. John was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Traer. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, hiking, biking and playing cards. John is preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother; Albert, 3 sisters; Mary, Helen and Elizabeth, and a grandson; Justin POWELL. He is survived by his wife; Dolores of Traer, 2 sons; John BAKER of Sun Prairie, WI and Michael BAKER of Traer, a daughter; Mary (Mrs. Jerome) KARLS of Lodi, WI, a sister, Margaret STEARNS of Eagle River, WI and 6 grandchildren.

PENCE, Wis. - Albert W. Baker, 77, of Pence, died this morning at Ashland, Wis. He was born Feb. 1, 1911 at Wakefield, son of Albert and Catherine Baker. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Pence, and graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1928. He was employed at the Montreal Mine from 1936 to 1962, and was employed with Webster Electric, Racine, Wis., from 1962 to 1973, when he retired. He married Esther Swetkovich on April 11, 1939 at Vinton Iowa. Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Esther; a son, Dale of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Gale) Boggio of Laurium; four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He is also survived by a brother, John Baker of Traer, Iowa, and by a sister, Mrs. Margaret Stearns of Eagle River, Wis. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen, Mary and Betty. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Church, Pence, the Rev. David Lusson officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be at Engstrom Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., where prayers will be recited at 7 p.m.

TRAER - Dolores Ann Baker, 86, of Traer, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo. She was born July 19, 1925, in Chelsea, daughter of Jack and Caroline Musel Prusha. On July 5, 1947, she married John Baker at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chelsea. He died Nov. 7, 1995. Mrs. Baker graduated from high school in Chelsea, then worked as a telephone operator for a time. She also did seasonal work for Funk's Seed Corn Co., Traer. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. Survived by: two sons, John (Sarah) of Springfield, Mo., and Michael of Traer; a daughter, Mary Karls of Lodi, Wis.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Ferris of Toledo. Preceded in death by: a grandson; a sister, Lillian Prusha; and a brother, Wesley Prusha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Traer, with burial in the church cemetery. Waunakee- Rosina M. Karls, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on June 29, 1925 the daughter of John H. & Regina (Statz) Maly. Rosina was united in marriage to John M. Karls on October 29, 1946 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Dane. She was a stay at home mom who farmed with her husband for 36 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Waunakee and a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Dane where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society as well as it's bowling league. Additionally, she was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and County Homemakers both of Dane. In her spare time Rosina enjoyed baking, cooking, dancing, playing cards, bowling and volunteering at Waunakee Manor and Assisted Living. She is survived by her children, Jerome Karls, Dane, John (Cecille) Karls, Lodi and Karie (Craig) Garfoot, Fond du Lac; grandchildren, Scott (Marsha) Laufenberg, Bowling Green, KY, Craig Laufenberg & Dean (Val) Laufenberg all of Waunakee, Stacy (Brian) Danz, Neenah, John J. Mary Margaret Russell
Mary Margaret Russell, formerly of Hurley and Eagle River, died Monday, July 14, 2003, in La Grange, Ill. She was 75. Mrs. Russell was born March 12, 1928, in Bessemer, Mich., the daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth (nee Baker) Patritto. She attended local schools and graduated in 1946 from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley. After high school, she moved to Chicago, Ill., where she worked at O'Connell's Restaurant and Pizzeria Duo. She married Minor Russell Jan. 15, 1951, in Chicago and, with her husband, owned and operated M&R Tap in Chicago for 11 years. After vacationing in Eagle River for many years, they purchased The Pasta Cottage, operating it from 1981 to 1996. In addition to her husband, Minor of Aurora, survivors include two daughters, Kimberley (Steve) Russell-Levine of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Barbara (Steve) Zelms of Eagle River; one brother, Bernard (Ardith) Patritto of Ironwood, Mich.; two sisters, Barbara Alexandroni of Ironwood, Mich., and Catherine (Leslie) Carlstrom of Hurley; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. The Rev. Robert O'Connell and Deacon Russell Lundgren will officiate. Visitation will precede the service from 9 to 10 a.m.
AURORA, Wis. - Minor L. Russell, 82, of Aurora, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born on May 23, 1925, in Alberta, Mich., son of the late Lao and Mary (Lavere) Russell. He served in the United States Navy.
He married Mary Patritto in Chicago on Jan. 15, 1950, and she preceded him in death.
Minor and his wife and family owned and operated the Pasta Cottage Restaurant in Eagle River, Wis. for many years. He loved the Chicago Cubs, watching the National Geographic channel, and the excitement at the casino and horse track. He was married for 52 years to his wife, Mary, and loved her very much.
He is survived by two daughters, Kim Russell of Louisville, Ky. and Barb (Steve) Zelms of Eau Claire, Wis.; four grandchildren, Steven and Stormi Rose, Ryan Thomas and Daniel Zelms; three great-grandchildren, Tristan, Arianna, and Kaden; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and a special friend, Bernie Colontonio.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erin.

Mrs. Elizabeth Corti, 71, Chicago, former Range resident, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alfred Alexandroni, Ironwood. Mrs. Corti was born in Colorado April 13, 1907. She moved to Wakefield with her family and attended school there. She made her home at Hurley several years before moving in 1951 to Chicago where she was married to Harry Corti. In 1962, they came to Ironwood. He died in September, 1971, and she returned to Chicago in 1972. Survivors include one son, Bernard Patritto Jr., Ironwood; three daughters, Mrs. Minor Russell and Mrs. Kenneth Backlund, Chicago, and Mrs. Alexandroni; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Stearns, Chicago, and Miss Mary Baker, Vermont, and two brothers, Albert Baker, Pence, and John Baker, Treynor, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Engstrom Funeral Home, Hurley, with the Rev. James Genovesi officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. The funeral home will be open for visitation after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
