John “Kenneth” Forsen age 85 of Herman died March 2, 2017 at Crowell Home in Blair, Nebraska. A celebration of life will he held March 4, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the Herman American Legion Hall. Kenneth was born on July 9, 1931 in Harrison County Iowa the son of John C. and Bessie Forsen. He attended Modale High School and participated in baseball, basketball and track. He graduated from Modale in 1950. He proudly served the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 then served in the reserves from 1952 to 1954. He was a lifetime member of the Herman American Legion Post # 274. On June 30th, 1952 he was united in marriage to Darlene Meeker in Council Bluffs; the couple were high school sweethearts. Kenneth was a lifelong farmer. He started farming in Iowa with his father and then in 1959 moved to Herman and in later years farmed with his sons and grandsons. He also worked as a seed salesman for Garst and Thomas Seed Company. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 64 years Darlene; children: John (Judy) Forsen of Herman, Tammy (Joe) Peterson of Blair, Terri (David) Vopnford of Mt. Vernon, Washington, daughter-in-law LeAnn Forsen of Herman; grandchildren: Shawn Forsen, Sharon Thompson, Trisha Forsen, Jeffrey Forsen, Tafida Jones, Cramer Peterson, Clara Peterson, Kiela Vopnford, Shelbi Vopnford, and Thor Vopnford; great grandchildren: Sasha Forsen, Jordan Holst, Jack Forsen, Kendall Forsen, Johnathan Forsen, Kayla Whitthun, Jeffery Forsen, Jarrin Forsen, Jaylon Forsen, Scotland Zachmeyer, Raelyn Zachmeyer, Treyton Jones, Lexi Jones, Tommy Thompson, Tyler Thompson; great great granddaughter Hadley Forsen; sister Charlotte Laird of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jeff Forsen, infant granddaughter Heidi Forsen, grandson Colton Peterson, and sister Cleo Larsen. Memorials may be directed to the Herman American Legion.
