SAN DIEGO COUPLE ARE QUIETLY WED
Bride is Chula Vista Teacher; Announcement Comes as Surprise to Many Friends.
A great surprise to their many friends is the announcement of the marriage of Miss Edith Brainard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Brainard, 1704 Monroe avenue, and Frederick K. Garrett, soon of Mrs. M. A. Abbey, 3930 Normal avenue, which took place Monday evening at the home of the bride's parents. Rev. Harry Rimmer officiated, and only relatives were present. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Garrett left for a honeymoon auto trip to the Yosemite and upon their return will reside in San Diego. Mrs. Garrett is well known in Chula Vista, having taught school there for the last three years. Since his return from Siberia, where he was sent by the government in 1918 as a member of a wireless construction crew, Mr. Garrett has been employed as a mechanic at the shipbuilding plant.

Miss Garrett Becomes Bride of Donald King
Mr. and Mrs. Fred K. Garrett, of 1620 Monroe ave., announce the marriage of their daughter, Phyllis May, to Donald King, of Burbank, which took place recently in the Wee Kirk 'o Heather, Glendale. The bride wore a street-length white woolen dress with brown accessories and a white ostrich feather hat with a brown veil. Her pearl beads were a gift of the bridegroom. She carried a white testament covered with white orchids and as the traditional "something old" wore a bracelet which had belonged to her great grandmother. Miss Joyce Logsdon, cousin of the bride was the bride's only attendant and was dressed in blue. Her hat and accessories were black. Gordon Garrett, U. S. N., the bride's brother, who has been serving on the U. S. S. Iowa for the last two years, was best man. Mrs. Chester C. Lincoln, another cousin of the bride and the former Miss Marilyn Logsdon, sang "Because" and "I Love You Truly." After a reception in the patio, Mr. and Mrs. King left on a wedding trip to Big Bear lake. The bride is a graduate of San Diego High school and was active in musical circles here. Since 1944 she has resided in Pasadena, where she plays in the first violin section of the Pasadena Civic symphony. Mr. King is a photographer and layout man for Lockheed. He and his bride will reside in Pasadena.

Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Park Boulevard Methodist church for Mrs. Margaret Ann Abbey, 89, who first came to San Diego in 1889. The Rev. Roy C. Mason, pastor of Park church, and the Rev. John Gabrielson, former pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in Greenwood Memorial park. Bonham Brother's mortuary is in charge. She died Monday in her home, 1740 Meade ave. Mrs. Abbey, a native of Ramsy, Isle of Man, lived here from 1889 to 1891. She returned later and had lived here continuously for 42 years. She was a charter member of Taylor Methodist church, now the Park church, which was dedicated in 1908. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday yesterday. Surviving are a son, Fred K. Garrett, of San Diego; three daughters, Mrs. Eunice Ward, of Solana Beach, and others in Portland and Santa Monica; five grandsons and two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

Miss Lake Will Take Vows Today
Miss Katherine Gay Lake, daughter of Mrs. Virginia T. Lake, of this city, and Rear Adm. Burton G. Lake, of Seattle, will exchange marriage vows with Gordon Lee Garrett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred K. Garrett, this afternoon at 2 in the Wedding Bell Chapel. A ballerina-length gown of white nylon net and tulle duster, will be worn by the bride. A crown of lace will hold her shoulder-length veil and she will carry a cascade of white roses. Frocked in pink net, lace and satin, ballerina length, Miss Virginia Lake will be maid of honor for her sister. Performing the duties of best man will be Walter Stanley Porter. Leroy Rogers and William Woodcock are to usher. Following a reception in the chapel, the just-weds will leave for a wedding trip to the mountains and desert. They will reside here. Both Young people are graduates of San Diego High School.

FREDERICK GARRETT
Frederick Garrett, 68, of 1620 Monroe Ave., a carpenter, died Wednesday in his home. He was a member of Silvergate Lodge 296, F&AM. He is survived by his widow, Edith; a son, Gordon of San Diego; a daughter in Germany; three grandchildren and two sisters. Private services will be handled by Lewis Colonial Mortuary.
Clifford Willis Travers died May 28, 1970. in West Sacramento, Sacramento, CA, at age 79.
Rites are Set For East Yolo Ex -Fire Chief
Funeral services for Clifford W. Travers, 70, a retired West Sacramento fire chief will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sacramento Memorial Lawn Chapel. Travers who died Thursday in a local hospital, had been fire chief for 18 years prior to his retirement in 1960. Asst. Chief Frank Feher of the West Sacramento Fire Department said Travers developed the department from a one-man unit manned by volunteers in 1942 to six employees by 1960. He also expanded the department equipment from two pumper engines by adding a tanker two additional engines and a rescue unit. The former two stall firehouse was increased to nearly twice that size to accommodate the expanded department during the Travers tenure. Travers was a native of Sacramento and schooled here. he was of the Fillmore, Ventura County, Fire Department for 15 years prior to returning to Sacramento He was one of five men to originate the West Sacramento Firemen's Association.... Entombment will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
