Buried in Coon Rapids Cemetery, Coon Rapids, Union Twp., Carroll Co., IA. He is the son of William Moor Unger of Pennsylvania, and Arminta Jane Hess of Pennsylvania.

Frances Gertrude "Fannie" Blake was born October 26, 1865, in Warren, Jo Daviess Co., IL, and died September 26, 1947, in St Anthony's Hospital, Carroll, Carroll Co., IA, at age 81. Buried in Coon Rapids Cemetery, Coon Rapids, Union Twp., Carroll Co., IA. She is the daughter of Thomas Monroe Blake of Martinsburg, Bedford (Blair) Co., PA, and Mary Ella Barkman of Maryland.

COON RAPIDS RIPPLES

(From the Enterprise) Dr. Unger has returned from Omaha, not being operated on. The doctors of Omaha pronounced his ailment cancer of the stomach. The Dr. intends to leave soon for Chicago where he will likely be operated upon by the specialists, and all will hope that he may finally recover. He is yet in his prime, has made a decided success in his profession; is an active man in the community and could not well be spared.

COON RAPIDS RIPPLES

(From the Enterprise) Dr. Unger went to Rochester, Wednesday, to be operated upon for cancer of the stomach, accompanied by Dr. Wolfe. While in a pretty weak condition it was thought best that he go at once. There have been some cases where the entire stomach has been removed and the patient enjoy pretty good health for years. All hope for the doctor's recovery.

Dr. Unger Dies of Cancer.

Dr. T. H. Unger died early Thursday morning at the close of several weeks intense suffering. His last days were made fairly restful by the free use of opiates but the suffering from cancer is very painful at best and in the last stage the sufferer gets but little rest. The Doctor failed rapidly from the time it was discovered that he was afflicted with the loathsome disease and during the past few days it was known that he could not last long. All his fellow physicians in town attended him, giving him every possible attention. His relatives and friends were constantly with him, relieving him as much as possible the the Doctor was patient and resigned and passed away peacefully. Thomas Howard Unger was born in Pennsylvania in 1860; came to Iowa in 1880. Was married to Miss Fannie Blake in Cherokee county in 1888 and moved to Coon Rapids in 1897. Two children were born to them, Marian and Esther, who, with the mother and other near relatives, are left to mourn his death. Dr. Unger, veteriniary surgeon, came to Coon Rapids sixteen years ago, almost fresh from college.

Funeral Services For. Mrs. Unger Held On Monday

COON RAPIDS - Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Unger were held at 2:30 p. m. Monday at the Coder Funeral home, with the Rev. Eugene Alexander, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Mrs. J. W. Russell and Mrs. Roswell Jordan sang "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages", accompanied by Mrs. Russell Newcomm. The musicians are members of the Eastern Star. Burial was in the family lot in the Coon Rapids cemetery. Pallbearers, also Eastern Star members, were: Milo Dailey, C. H. Whitten, Jack Rodgers, George Keeley, Wesley Davis and Roy Holliday. Mrs. Unger was born Frances Gertrude, third child of Thomas and Elizabeth Blake, October 26, 1864, in Warren, Ill. She came with her parents to a Cherokee county, Ia., farm, in 1880. There, in March 1888, she married Thomas Howard Unger. Since 1899, when Dr. Unger located here as a veterinary surgeon, Mrs. Unger had lived in Coon Rapids. Her husband died in 1913. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Marion Cook and Mrs. B. W. Trullinger, both of Coon Rapids; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. As a young girl, Mrs. Unger united with the First Baptist church of Warren, Ill. Later she attended and served in the Presbyterian church, Coon Rapids. A charter member of the Eastern Star, she also belonged to the Past Matrons club. For many years she had been a member of the Woman's club. Death came to her at the St. Anthony hospital in Carroll Friday evening, September 26, after an eight-year illness.
