Evan Larson Lewis, age 92, passed away March 6, 2013. Evan was born in Birmingham, Alabama, November 28, 1920, He attended Howard College in Birmingham where he graduated with Honors in 1942. He then attended the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. On February 26, 1944, he married Bernardine Buck of Roanoke, Virginia, a dietitian at Hopkins Hospital. Following internship at the Brady Urological Institute of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, he entered active duty with the United States Army. His 30 years of active duty included tours at Walter Reed General Hospital, Letterman General Hospital, Madigan General Hospital and Fitzsimons General Hospital. He served overseas with two tours in Korea and one each in Japan and Germany. He was awarded the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, The Korean Order of Merit with Gold Star, and the Meritorious Service Medal. Following his retirement from the army he entered private practice in Denver and concluded his medical career as Chief of Professional Service at The Rocky Mountain Arsenal. Association, the American Medical Association, the Colorado Medical Society and a Founding member of the Society of Government Service Urologists. He was a member of Aurora Lodge #156 AF&AM. Evan is survived by his wife Bernardine, a daughter Sharon Mazel of Sterling, Colorado, a son Griffith Lewis of Libertyville, Illinois, two grandchildren, a step grandchild and one great grandchild.

His achievements include the invention of the Lewis Stone forcep.

Leigh, In case you haven't heard, my brother Evan died of respiratory failure on March 6, 2013, in Denver, Colorado. He was 92 years old, and was still living at home with his wife Bernie. He was buried in Ft. Logan National Military Cemetery, Denver, with full military honors. Attending the funeral were his wife Bernie, his daughter Sharon of Sterling, Colorado; his son Griffith and his wife Barbara from Libertyville, Illinois; his grandson Jimmy from California; his granddaughter Christy from Nevada; his brother Gordon; and Gordon's three daughters - Julia from Virginia, Nancy from South Carolina, and Peggy from Pennsylvania. Bernie, who will be 94 on June 16th, wants to stay in her home in Denver as long as possible. I am still spending part-time in my home in Wilmington, Delaware, and part-time in my house in Port Royal Plantation, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Like Bernie, I want to keep it this way as long as I am able. I will be 90 on June 27th. I hope all is well with you. Regards, Gordon
