Emily (Gilby) Hardy and Victor Wilson, 1908. The car belonged to Dr. George Buckton Hardy, DDS., who was quite a remarkable man - first a teacher, then a dentist whose office was on Carlton St. opposite Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, then he retired and opened a Nursery and grew plants and flowers. His fiancée died during the plague epidemic, probably 1918, and his love life died with her. He had quite a zest for life, and traveled to England in 1900 by ship.

SHERIDAN COUPLE MARRIED SIXTY YEARS
Blizzards, Deep Snowdrifts Marked Wedding in 1872
Sheridan Couple Reach their Diamond Jubilee With Faculties Unimpaired - Tell of Belated Honeymoon Due to Road Blockade
Sheridan, Jan. 23. - Strong contrast was made with the balmy weather of the winter of 1931 - 33 by Mr. and Mrs. George H. Hardy, Sheridan, as they told the story of their wedding, sixty years ago, to The Telegram yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy, who have reached their diamond jubilee with their faculties unimpaired, described a winter of howling blizzards and deep drifts, through which a horse and cutter bucked a painful way too the railway to despatch them on a train to Toronto for a brief honeymoon. Only one road was passable, others being blocked with snow that filled the right of way from fence to fence. Their wedding day, Mrs. Hardy told The Telegram, was a particularly stormy one, contrasting markedly with the peaceful married life which she and Mr. Hardy have enjoyed for the past sixty years. Bitter wind and driving snow prevented them from leaving the Gilby home where they were married until the following day. In Toronto, they stopped at the "Bay Horse" Hotel, at that time, Mr. Hardy said, one of the best hotels in the city. Both remember the courtesy and hospitality of the proprietor. Their stay in the city was short, the needs of Mr. Hardy's farm at Sheridan drawing them back to the homestead. Mrs. Hardy, who was born in England, the daughter of a York merchant, found trying hardships in Canada, but she was proud of the homestead, and proud of Mr. Hardy. Mr. Hardy was born a mile and a half from the hamlet of Sheridan and has spent his entire life in the district. He was the son of the late George Hardy, and has held the posts of assessor, secretary of the Trafalgar Township Agricultural Society, and Justice of the Peace. He is a strong temperance worker, belonging to the Sons of Temperance, lecturing through the neighborhood in the interest of that society. He is a Liberal in politics, and when asked if a cure for his political beliefs could be effected, claimed it was too late to reform. Mr. Hardy is in his 90th year, and is proud of his interest in occurrences of the day. His faculties are keen and he is able to do a great deal of the minor work about his home. Mrs. Hardy, born in York, came to Canada at the age to ten, her father settling near Sheridan, where he founded a homestead for his sons. Mrs. Hardy is in her 88th year. The wedding, taking place at the Gilby home, was performed by Rev. Michael Fawcett, of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, with Emma Gilby and William F. Gilby, sister and cousin of the bride,, as attendants. None of those present at the wedding s save the principals survive. None of Mr. Hardy's parental family survive. Mrs. Hardy has two brothers, George Gilby, in Texas, and John Gilby, in Nillerfield, Alberta. They have four sons - Dr. T. B. Hardy, Toronto; J. T. Hardy, Trafalgar; Jackson Hardy and Dufferin Hardy, Fort William - and three daughters - Mrs. Alfred Wilson, Mrs. Bennet Savage, Trafalgar, amd Mrs. H. B. McGregor, Winnipeg. Sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren are descended from them.
