She is the daughter of Oliver Nathaniel Abbey of Hope Twp., Durham Co., Upper Canada, and Elizabeth Jones of Clarke Twp., Durham Co., Upper Canada.

James Albert Wright (1857- )

Pharmacist, municipal official.

Born in Durham County, Ontario, on 14 November 1857, son of Charles and Elizabeth Wright, the family emigrated to Canada and settled on a farmstead at Durham about 1850. He family moved to Brussels, Ontario about 1860 and, after finishing his education, clerked in drug stores at Durham and Port Elgin. He graduated from the Ontario College of Pharmacy in 1882. He came to Manitoba in 1882 and opened a drug store at Manitou, moving a year later to Boissevain. He operated a store there until 1901 when he was appointed accountant in the Land Titles Office. In 1890 he was appointed clerk of the Rural Municipality of Morton. In 1887 he married Eliza L. Abbey of Durham County, Ontario. They had four children: Florence, James, Kathleen Edith, and Frederick. He was a member of the IOOF, the Knights of Pythias, COF and AF & AM (Doric Lodge No. 36). He was a warden in the Anglican church.

JAMES ALBERT WRIGHT.

Mr. James Albert Wright, accountant in the land titles office in Boissevain, was born on November 14. 1857, in Durham county, Ontario, and is a son of Charles and Elisabeth Wright, the father being a native of Yorkshire and the mother of Lincolnshire, England. Both parents emigrated t Canada in the early days and settled in Durham about 1850, where the father followed farming pursuits as his life’s occupation. Mr. Wright was educated in Brussels, Huron county, Ontario, the family having settled there about 1860. After finishing his studies he clerked in a drug store in Durham and at Port Elgin, completing his studies at the Ontario College of Pharmacy, from which institution he graduated in 1882 as a chemist and druggist. In that year he came to Manitoba and after a year spent in the drug business in Manitou embarked in business on his own account in Boissevain, which business he conducted until 1901, at which time he was appointed accountant in the land titles office, which position he is now acceptably filling, In 1890 he was appointed clerk of the municipality of Morton. In 1887 Mr. Wright married Miss Eliza Abbey, a daughter of Henry Abbey, of Durham county, Ontario, and four children have been born of this union; Florence, James, Kathleen Edith and Frederick. Fraternally Mr. Wright is affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Knights of Pythias, the Canadian Order of Foresters, and he also holds membership in Doric Lodge No. 36. A. F. & A. M., being past master of the lodge. Politically he gives his support to the Conservative party. Both he and Mrs. Wright hold membership in the Church of England, and for the past ten years Mr. Wright has been warden of the church.

OBITUARY RECORD

The death of James Albert Wright occurred this morning at his residence, 858 Phoenix Street. He had been a resident of this city for the past eighteen months and for a number of years was a leading druggist in Manitoba. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Florence and Kathleen Wright, and one son, James V. Wright. He was also a member of the Boissevain Lodge of the I. O. O. F. at Boissevain, Manitoba. The funeral will take place from the B. C. Funeral Chapel at 2 o'clock Monday, the Rev. Robert Connell will officiate.

The funeral of the late James Albert Wright took place yesterday afternoon from the B. C. Funeral Chapel, where service was conducted by the Rev. Robert Connell. There was a large attendance of friends, and a large floral offering covered the casket and hearse. One hymn was sung, "Abide with Me." The remains were laid to rest in Ross Bay Cemetery. The following acted as pallbearers: Messrs. R. A. Ritchie, J. Bradshaw, H. Grant, D. A. Henry, S. C. Hall and H. A. MacLennan.

Mrs. Elizabeth L. Wright passed away on Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Mullard, 121 Robertson Street, aged seventy-two years. The late Mrs. Wright was born at Port Hope, Ontario, and lived at Boissevain, Manitoba, for some years before the family moved to Victoria in 1912, where she had since resided. Her husband predeceased her in 1929. One son, Fred, was killed in action in 1918, and two daughters and one son survive, Miss Florence L. Wright, Tokio; Mrs. J. Mullard, with whom she resided, and James Vernon of Ottawa. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:30 o'clock, Rev. Robert Connell officiating.

Survived by husband, James; Cousin, Willard Webster and family of Winnipeg, Manitoba and other relatives in Victoria, B.C. She was a member of St. Saviors and St. Albans Churches. A Royal Jubilee Hospital Nurse, class of 1922. Member of the Victoria Nurses Alumni of Royal Jubilee Hospital,, was head nurse of the Veteran's Hospital retiring in 1964, a member of the United Empire Loyalists and of Colfax Rebecca Lodge. Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 15 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Alban's Church, 1468 Ryan Street with the Reverend Edwin W. Taylor officiating. Interment to follow at Ross Bay Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined and those so wishing may make a donation to St. Alban's Church. Arrangements entrusted to McCALL BROS.
