Dale Wesley Leander anecdotes: You mention my dad's brother, John Allan Leander. I conducted his funeral at that Baptist church you mention. John Allan Leander, "Allan" as we called him, was a bit of a loner, and there were only 4 people at his funeral. I was John Allan Leander's executor, and after he was cremated, I took his ashes to the family plot there in Salina where Elizabeth (Kraft) (Leander) Blake is buried with her young son Albert N. Leander, along with Carl George Leander & Lela Lena (Brewer) Leander, and put John Allan Leander's ashes down a 10 inch hole that the cemetery dug, and I literally shoveled the dirt in the hole with the sun setting with just my 11 year old son watching. The cemetery custodian had already left for the day, and told me by phone he would leave a shovel at the grave site. I don't think that is normal protocol, but 100 years earlier at Stotler, the Swedish Leanders were buried in an even more manual fashion. I did buy a matching headstone for John Allan Leander, and that will be the last Leander buried there in Salina. I mentioned below my dad Daniel V. Leander told me that John A. Leander died in his 40s (and Daniel V. thought John A. may have gone back to Kansas City and died there). I'll add that my dad said John A. became an alcoholic - possibly because at age 42 his 13 year old son Albert N. Leander died in April, 1899. Dan Leander said his dad (Carl George Leander) told Dan that Carl George Leander's older brother Albert N. Leander was a brilliant child prodigy. Albert ran the family business cash register and was great interacting with customers, and was fantastic with math at even 13. He also had great artistic talent. I have a color copy of a large 3'x4' framed charcoal pencil scenery with 3 deer by a creek that Albert N. Leander did, which looks like a someone with a college art degree drew. So Albert N. Leander 's death may have hit John A. Leander very hard. As a side note, one of John A. Leander's younger siblings was Karl Leander. My dad said John A. Leander named his second child Carl George Leander in honor of his younger brother Karl.
