Alice Lucretia Bales was born April 1, 1866, in New Jasper Twp., Greene Co., OH, and died May 31, 1902, in Greene Co., OH, at about age 36. Buried in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia, Greene Co., OH. She is the daughter of John Stokes Bales of Caeserscreek Twp., Greene Co., OH, and Catharine L. Spahr of New Jasper Twp., Greene Co., OH.

Mr. Daniel Dean Bickett and Mrs. Clara J. Hupman, both of Xenia, were married Tuesday at the parsonage of the First U. P. Church, the Rev. James P. Lytle officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Bickett left Wednesday for a short trip and expect to visit, enroute, the Rev. Lester Bickett and family in Rushville, Ind.

Well-Known Farmer Called to His Long Home.

Mr. Jesse B. Bickett, a well-known and highly respected farmer who resided in the Clark's Run neighborhood, passed to his long home last night about 8 o'clock, after an illness of considerable length. Mr. Bickett was born and raised near New Jasper. He was united in marriage to a Miss Beall, daughter of Wm. Beall. She survives him together with the following brothers and sisters: Daniel Bickett, of the firm of Boots & Bickett, near New Jasper; Harvey, of Nebraska; Hugh, of Kansas; Mrs. T. B. Clark, of this city, and Miss Ella, who lives at the home with her mother near New Jasper. The deceased was 37 years of age and was a member of the First U. P. church of this city, being an upright and well respected citizen whose death will be sorely felt. The funeral will take place from the residence on Wednesday at 10:30 a. m. Burial will be at Woodland cemetery.

The marriage of Miss Eliza Bickett to George R. Whitlock took place Wednesday at the home of the bride in Superior, Neb. Miss Bickett was formerly a University of Nebraska student, being a member of the class of 1918. She was prominent in dramatic affairs and was a member of the Dramatic club. Mr. Whitlock served three years with the Canadian forces in France. Mr. and Mrs. Whitlock will make their home in Superior.


In 1930, George R. Whitlock (born about 1890 in Kansas and first married at age 28) is remarried to Alberta Unknown (born about 1890 in Denmark and first married at age 16) and is living in Lincoln, Lancaster Co., NE. He is a Life Insurance Agent. Eliza (Bickett) (Whitlock) Hester is married to Willis M. Hester and is living in Superior, Nuckolls Co., NE.

SUES FOR GAMBLING LOSSES

Omaha Woman Asking for Money Husband Wagered.

OMAHA. Seeking to recover what she claimed were gambling losses of her husband, Mrs. George R. Whitlock, wife of the former agency manager here of the Northwestern National Life insurance company, filed suit in district court Thursday against William O'Neil and the Delmar cigar store. Her petition charges the store is a gambling house and that her husband lost $2,000 gambling there in April and May 1936. Last October Mrs. Whitlock sued the Cornhusker cigar store and the Kentucky Derby cigar store. In the former, she charged Whitlock lost $3,000 and in the latter, $4,000. These cases have not yet come to trial. Following filing of the first two suits, Whitlock disappeared.

DANIEL D. BICKETT

Daniel Dean Bickett, 87, retired farmer and real estate agent, died at his home, 112 West Second street, Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock. He had been in failing health the last year, suffering from complications, but his condition did not become serious until six days ago. Born in New Jasper Twp., February 16, 1855, he was the son of Daniel D. and Eliza Allen Bickett. He formerly was a member of the firm of Bootes, Bickett and Conklin, which operated a stone quarry at New Jasper, but disposed of his interest in the business in 1905 and went West where he remained in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Idaho, many years, returning to Greene County in 1926. Mr. Bickett was married November 16, 1887 to Miss Alice L. Bales and she died in 1902. On February 8, 1927 he was married to Mrs. Clara Beal Hupman who survives. He also leaves a son, Rev. Lester Lee Bickett, pastor of the Methodist Church, Russellville, Ind.; four grandchildren, Lieut. Robert Dean Bickett, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mrs. Esther Beecher, Rochester, Ind., and Paul and Ruth Bickett, Russellville, Ind.; a great-grandson, Harland Kipp Beecher, Rochester, Ind., and a brother, Harvey, Superior, Neb. , and a brother, Harvey, Superior, Neb. Funeral services will be conducted at the Neeld Funeral Home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be in charge of Rev. W. A. Moore, pastor of the New Burlington Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 5 p. m. or 7 to 9 p. m.

Valley Deaths

XENIA - Services for Daniel Dean Bickett, 87, retired farmer and real estate agent, who died yesterday morning at his home, 112 West Second street, will be at 2 p. m. tomorrow at the Neeld funeral home, with burial in Woodland cemetery. Born in New Jasper township, he formerly was a member of the firm of Bootes, Bickett and Conklin, which operated a stone quarry at New Jasper, but disposed of his interest in 1905 and went west. He remained many years in Oklahoma, N. M. and Idaho, returning to Greene county in 1926. Mr. Bickett was married in 1887 to Miss Alice L. Bales and after her death in 1902 he married Mrs. Clara Beal Hupman in 1927. She survives with a son, Rev. Lester Lee Bickett, pastor of the Methodist church, Russellville, Ind., and a brother, Harvey, Superior, Neb.

Mrs. Clara Jane Bickett

XENIA - Mrs. Clara Jane Bickett, 92, of 112 West Second street, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Greene Memorial hospital following a  long illness. She suffered a stroke 10 days ago. Prior to entering the hospital she was at a nursing home here. A lifelong Greene countian, Mrs. Bickett was a member of First United Presbyterian church here. Rites will be held at the Nagley funeral home at 2 p.m. tomorrow, with Rev. Ralph Ayers officiating. Burial in Woodland cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. Surviving are three stepchildren, Mrs. Vesper Human Brewer of Louisville, Ky., Paul Homan of Louisville, Ky., and Rev. Lester Bickett, of Newport, Ind.; four step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
