Kay Koslan comments: It looked my brother Barry Wetzel and my cousin Mike Dolce were up to no good because they had a long white cord. But then I recognized it was a type of child harness attached to Mark Gustafson at the front end so he wouldn't run off into the street! The only thing Barry and Mike were doing were holding onto that cord. I think it was attached to my Grandma Alice's clothes line, as they often did that to protect the kids from running off. This was especially important because there were 33 grandchildren. There were probably at least 20 in this gathering.

Gulf soldier married by proxy
LOLO - Marine Sgt. Paul Flemmer is somewhere in the Persian Gulf, but he and Rhonda McWilliams were married here anyway. Flemmer's father, Del Flemmer, stood in for his eldest son under Montana's provision for proxy weddings. "I haven't got married for 30 years," the elder Flemmer quipped just before exchanging marriage vows with McWilliams, his 25-year-old daughter-in-law-to-be from Stevensville, The wedding was arranged by mail, telephone and legal power of attorney during the last month or so. The Rev. Gale Fister conducted the ceremony at the Lolo Community Church. Paul Flemmer and McWilliams, who have a 1-year-old son, were scheduled to be married Aug. 30, and he had been granted a 30-day leave for the occasion. The couple had even bought a house in Stevensville. Flemmer's leave was canceled abruptly when the Persian Gulf crisis erupted, and he was sent from his station at El Toro, Calif., to the Persian Gulf on Aug. 27. But McWilliams was determined to have a wedding, with or without the groom. "We'd heard about the possibility of a proxy wedding, but the (Marine Corps) chaplain in California said it couldn't be done," she said. Montana, however, is one of the few states that allows proxy weddings. With the help of Ravalli County officials and a Marine Corps lawyer, within a month or so, the papers were in order. The proxy marriage assures that the couple's son, Jason, has all legal rights as Paul's heir and dependent, the new Mrs. Flemmer said. "When Paul gets back, we'll do it (get married) the right way," she said.

Delmer Edward Flemmer
STEVENSVILLE – While watching his beloved Bears on Monday night football (Da Bears), and YES they won, Delmer passed away peacefully in his favorite chair on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015. He was the steady rock in our family. He was born in Mercer County, North Dakota, on Sept. 29, 1936. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he came home and married the love of his life, Colleen Theresa Abbey, on April 2, 1959. In the following years, they created a beautiful family with four children. There was never a dull moment in their lives. They moved from North Dakota to Montana in 1965, where he worked for Blair Mayflower Transfer & Storage for many years. Deciding that he preferred trees over working with people, (smart man), he began his own post-and-pole business. He was a man of few words but when he spoke, people listened. Praise did not come easy from him so when you heard it, you earned it. His philosophy was, "Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill," which we all found to be true on more than one occasion. He loved his wife and children very much, but loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren even more; knowing that they were a blessing in his life. He left behind a legacy that will continue to carry on for many generations and we all know he will be managing over it from above. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hella and Edward Flemmer; brother, Don Flemmer; sisters Mae (Terry) Hughes and Alice Flemmer; and grandson, J.C. Haynes. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Colleen; his children, Larry (Deanna) Flemmer, Sandra Haynes, Marie (Mike) Browne of Stevensville and Paul (Rhonda) Flemmer of Thompson Falls; along with his 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. May their tribe increase! Aim high and God speed! The family will proceed with a private celebration of life. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at brothersmortuary.com.
