Mrs. Chas. Abbey Dead
On Sunday last the funeral of the late Mrs. Abbey left the house of Mr. Saxon Richards of Howland for Mountain View Cemetery. Mrs. Abbey was one of the oldest of the remaining pioneers of the Manitoulin. She came to the Island with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Nelder in 1874 and afterwards married Charles Abbey. They settled on a farm on the lake shore, lot 10 on 12th concession of Howland, where they went through the usual work of pioneers. After Mr. Abbey's death Mrs. Abbey left the farm and for quite a number of years has lived with her children, chiefly Mrs. Dyell of Massey and Mrs. Saxon Richards of Howland. She was with Mrs. Dyell at Massey when she died but was brought over for interment in Mountain View Cemetery. Besides three daughters in the West she leaves behind Mrs. Dyell of Massey, Mrs. Taylor of Montreal, Mrs. S. Richards of Howland and Chas Abbey who for some time has been fire ranging. She was about 73 years of age.
