CITY IN BRIEF.
The funeral of Benjamin F. Brown took place from his late residence, 2045 Q street, yesterday afternoon, and was in charge of the G. A. R. Mr. Brown had been ailing for several years from a disease that puzzled the doctors, and with the consent of his wife a post mortem was held. For several months prior to about three weeks ago he was afflicted with a voracious appetite, eating at all hours of the day or night and craving it at all times. About three weeks ago his appetite failed him, and since then he has taken nothing, it being impossible for him to swallow even malt. The man suffered greatly and begged that his life might be ended. The post mortem showed that a hard, cancerous growth or callus had prevented the passage of anything from the stomach to the intestines.

Birth: Mar. 13, 1854, Germany
Death: Dec. 7, 1953, Thayer Co., Nebraska
A life that was extended through almost a full century began when Catharina Stillahn was born March 13, 1854, in Ostfriesland, Germany. Less than two weeks after her birth, she was baptized at Aurich, Oldendorf, Germany. she spent her childhood and youth in the land of her birth, and having been instructed in the Lutheran faith, she was confirmed by Pastor Bode at Aurich in the year 1868. When she was a young woman of 20, she came to American in April, 1874. That same year, in July, she was married to George Collman at Mount Olive, Illinois. The marriage was solemnized by Pastor Weisbrod. Mr. and Mrs. Collman had seven children, only four of whom, however, are still living. They are: Harm Collman of Hebron; Mrs. Helen Gayton of Belleville, Ks.; Tom Collman of McCook; and Mrs. Tena Koester of Portland, Ore. The father died in 1887. To make a more desirable home and family life possible, the deceased was united in marriage with John Lambertus in 1889. Two daughters were born to their union: Mrs. Anna Swedell of Hastings and Mrs. Mary Kleen of Chester. The family moved from Illinois to a farm at Byron in 1891. In 1920 they established their home in Deshler where they resided until 1944, when they found it necessary to make their home with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kleen near Chester. When they came to Deshler to live, Mr. and Mrs. Lambertus joined Peace Lutheran Church and remained members there till the end. Mr. Lambertus died in 1946; but Mrs. Lambertus remained quite active and alert until she suffered a fracture when she fell on September 24. The day after her misfortune, she was taken to the hospital in Hebron. During the long weeks she was confined to her bed, she still clung to her child-like faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ. She received the Lord's Supper for the last time last Sunday. However, her wish to attain the age of 100 years at her next birthday, March 13, was not granted. Her age was 99 years, 8 months and 24 days. She is survived by her living children, 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and a number of great great grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted last Wednesday afternoon, the facilities of St. Peter's Lutheran Church being used since Peace Lutheran Church is under construction. The Rev. J. Vollstedt, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran, Stoddard, officiated. Pastor R.H. Riensche read the obituary and officiated at the committal service which took place on Peace Lutheran cemetery.
