Carl Larson Weds Miss Minnie Nichols

Carl E. Larson, son of Mrs. Harvey Stewart, and Miss Minnie Nichols of this city, obtained a license Friday evening and were married. Mrs. Minnie Nichols, mother of the bride, appeared to give her permission for the marriage of her daughter, who is 16 years old.


Above is a picture of Erik Larsson's son, Carl Edward Larson, who served in World War I. This picture is from Maurine Mackie, an Assessor in the Yolo County, CA Assessor's Office in Woodland, CA. According to her, Carl Edward Larson was married in 1917 to Minnie Nichols, but they were already divorced a year later. In Carl Edward Larson's death certificate from 1935, it says his profession is Laborer. He seems to have been working in an company called "Ditch Co.", but it may have been a generic term used on his death certificate. The cause of death was bronchial pneumonia. Since Carl E. Larson was a veteran, the American Legion took care of the funeral service. Carl E. Larson is sitting where the arrow points.

Cruelty Neglect Charged in Suit

On two county - cruelty and neglect - Mrs. Minnie Mead filed suit for divorce from Giles J. Mead. Her husband, says the woman, has been constantly quarrelsome and has refused to support her and their three daughters. The couple was married in Colusa nine years ago. The wife asks $50 for support of the children, and their custody. J. H. Laugenour is her attorney.

WOODLAND (Yolo Co.,), July 18. Miss Mabel Pinto and Albert Ball were married Wednesday in Reno, Nevada, according to word received by local friends. Following a brief sojourn in Southern California it is believed the couple will return to Oakland where they will establish their home. The bride ids the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Pinto. She has lived here the greater part of her life. Mrs. Tyler Ball is the mother of the groom. Mr. and Mrs. Ball are both graduates of Woodland High School.

CRUELTY CHARGED IN DIVORCE SUIT

Charging cruelty and failure to provide, Mrs. Minnie Mead of Woodland filed suit for divorce in superior court here against Giles Joab Mead, now believed to be in Nevada. Mrs. Mead charges that her husband refused to work and support their four children, and that when she would tell him of jobs that were open, he would swear at her. The Meads were married August 12, 1919, at Colusa and separated here October 24, 1931. There are four children ranging from two to 12 years of age. Mrs. Mead asks for custody of the children and $50 a month for their support. Neal Chalmers at attorney for Mrs. Mead.

Harvey Stewarts Celebrate 25th Wedding Anniversary

The 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Stewart was celebrated Friday evening at their home for a group of friends. Featuring the evening was the "re-marriage" of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart with the wedding party attired in costumes of 25 years ago. Mrs. Al McDonald acted as the minister, Mrs. Bertha Carlisle was bridesmaid and Mrs. Felix Rachand was best man. Pedro was played before the "wedding ceremony" and later the guests were seated at a table prettily decorated with a silver centerpiece surrounded with fall fruits and leaves for refreshments. Red berries and chrysanthemums were used in decorating the rooms of the home. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Anderson of Knights Landing, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. C. E. Larson, World War Vet, Dies

Carl Edward Larson, 40, a native of Woodland, died early Sunday morning at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Kraft Brothers chapel with Rev, C. L. Buckner of the First Methodist church officiating. The local post of the American Legion will conduct services at the grave in Woodland cemetery. Surviving him are his mother, Mrs. Harry Stewart; two brothers, Clarence O. and Henry Larson; a half brother, Clarke H. Stewart, and a nephew, Bobby Larson.

Hazel Irene Mead Harrington

Hazel Irene Mead Harrington died peacefully in Sacramento at Sutter General Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer Thursday, April 25, 2002, at age 79. Born Feb. 20, 1923, in Willows, Mrs. Harrington was the daughter of the late Giles Mead and Minnie (Nichols) Mead. She attended Woodland High School before marrying Francis (Frank) Harrington of Woodland. They settled in Sacramento, after Frank returned from World War II. Mrs. Harrington is survived by her sons, Paul Harrington and wife Kelly and, Stephen Harrington; and grandchildren, Katherine, Shea, Joseph, Stephen, and Michael, all of Sacramento. She is also survived by her sister, Jane Campbell of Woodland; sister-in-law, Hazel Mead of Rocklin; and numerous cousins; nieces; and nephews. Mrs. Harrington was preceded in death by her husband, Francis (Frank) Harrington; sister, Helen Norton of Madison; brother, Giles (Lum) Mead of Rocklin; and brother-in-law, Darryl Campbell of Woodland. A funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, at All Hallows Church, 5500 13th Ave., Sacramento. Interment to follow at noon, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22. Vivian Jane Campbell

Vivian Jane Campbell died on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Alderson's Convalescent Hospital at the age of 82. Mrs. Campbell was born on Sept. 10, 1924 in Willows to Giles J. and Minnie (Nichols) Mead. She has been a Yolo County resident for more than 60 years. She attended Woodland High School. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, a past member of the Eagles and Moose Lodge. She researched and co-wrote three books on the family background (genealogy) with her husband, Daryl. She also painted, drew and wrote poetry. Survivors include Mrs. Campbell's sons, David Hawley, Michael Campbell and spouse Stacey, and her daughter, Nancy Farley, all of Woodland. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; Mark and Jason Stevens, Julie Wolf, Robert Hayes, Lynette Thomas, April, Caitlin and Chase Campbell, Mike Loera, Dustin Farley and Kristin Farley; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Daryl Campbell, parents, brother, Giles Mead Jr., sisters, Helen Rugenbert and Hazel Harrington and by her daughters, Judy Hays and Nona Wolf. The family requests memorials in Mrs. Campbell's name be directed to Hospice of Yolo County, P.O. Box 1014, Davis 95617-1014. Services: A viewing and visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, March 20 at Kraft Bros. Roberta E. Ball Schneider, 64, a resident of Westport, died Wednesday morning, November 17, 2010, at her home in Westport with family by her side. She was born on January 18, 1946, in Woodland, California to Albert and Edith Evelyn (Gasaway) Ball. She married Ray E. Schneider on January 31 ,1966 in Woodland, California. He resides at the family home in Westport. Roberta was a very kind, caring and loving person. She always helped anyone in a crisis or even if they just needed someone to talk to. Roberta always remembered everyone's birthday and anniversary. She always kept in touch with all she knew and always remembered to call them or write them or just send a card to say "Hi". Roberta had the kindest heart of anyone that her family had ever known. She loved going to the beach and her wild birds. She always made sure they had food and water. Roberta is survived by her husband: Ray, Children: Ray A., Luie R., Matthew J. and Mona M.; Sister: Judy Acres; grandchildren: Amanda, Jesse, James, David, Daneille, Beau, Christopher, James and Dallas; great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Trista, Arianna and Aden. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Alberta and Gloria, daughter-in-law Lori and great-grand daughter Tivian.
