PIONEER CALLED BY DEATH

C. Anderson Called

Christian Anderson. Friday evening, Sept. 13 at eight o’clock, at his residence in this city, Christian Anderson passed quietly from this life after an illness of about four months following a paralytic stroke. Deceased was born in Denmark, Nov. 28, 1836 and June 30, 1857 was united in marriage to Miss Johanne Nelson. Six children were born of this union, two of whom died in childhood. June 1, 1870, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson with their family, immigrated to America and have resided in this city or vicinity since that time. An aged widow, one son, A. F. Anderson of this city, two daughters, Mrs. Carl Jensen and Mrs. Gus Lewis, besides twenty-three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren survive. Mrs. Lars S. Larson, who died in this city two and a half years ago, was also a daughter of deceased. On June 30, 1907, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson celebrated their golden wedding at which nearly all their descendents with their immediate families were present. The funeral which was very largely attended, was held Monday afternoon at two o’clock at Our Savior’s Lutheran church, of which church deceased was a charter member, Rev. J. P. Naarup officiating. Six of the grandsons, Charles, Fred and Oscar Larson, Albert and Irvin Lewis and Walter Anderson acted as pall bearers. The interment was in Lakeside cemetery.


Julianne Marie "Julia" (Andersen) Lewis died November 10, 1917, in Waupaca, Waupaca Co., WI, at age 59.

MRS. JULIANNE LEWIS

On Saturday, November 10, Mrs. Julianne Marie Anderson Lewis passed away quite suddenly, from heart failure and Waupaca lost a devoted mother and her church a willing worker and helper. Mrs. Lewis, nee Anderson, was born at Sjolland, Denmark, June 3, 1858, coming to this country and to Waupaca when she was twelve years of age, and lived here most of her life. In March 1876, she was happily married to Gustave Lewis who survives her as do nine of her ten children. Those surviving being Albert, Irvin, Phillip, Mrs. Edith Lear and Miss Clara Lewis of this city; Edward and Henry of New Leipzig, N. D., and Elmer of Tacoma, Washington; Reuben of Waco, Texas. She also has eight grandchildren. Reuben had enlisted for the war and is stationed at Waco, Texas, but is home at attend the funeral of his mother as are Edward and Henry; the other two boys finding it impossible to get here. Mr. Lewis who has been employed in North Dakota, for two years, also came home, but was too late, however, to see his wife alive. Mrs. Lewis was a devout Christian, a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and an able worker in the Ladies' Aid Society. She was also a member of the W. C. T. U. and of the Red Cross. Her death leaves a great void in the home where her children mourn and the sympathy of her many friends are with the bereaved. The funeral service was held on Tuesday from the home at 1:30, and from Our Savior's Church at 2 o'clock, the Rev. J. P. Naarup.


Johanna (Nelson) Anderson died 1918 in Waupaca, Waupaca Co., WI, at about age 86.

Caspar and Jennie Jensen live on the adjacent farm.

Living with him is his wife, Rica M. Jensen (age 63) born in Denmark to Danish-born parents, and having immigrated in 1870, and a Naturalized citizen, and first married at age 20.

Census taken on April 12, 1930, shows Gust Lewis (age 81) born in Sweden of Swedish-born parents and first married at age 26 is a widower rooming at 770 Berlin Road, 2nd Ward, Waupaca, Waupaca Co., WI. The household is that of William Peterson (age 73) born in Denmark to Danish-born parents and emigrating in 1870 and a naturalized citizen with real estate worth $6,000 and a radio and married at age 21. Living with him is his wife Anna C. Peterson (age 73) born in Denmark to Danish-born parents who emigrated in 1872 and is a naturalized citizen married at age 21. Gust Lewis' daughter Clara Johanna Lewis married a son of the Petersons, Clarence Peterson. Maud Stratman lives a few houses away.

Four generations were present when Mr. and Mrs. Caspar Jensen entertained at a dinner honoring Jensen's father, Carl Jensen, on his seventy sixth birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jensen's son, Caspar Jensen, and daughter, Mrs. Glen Michaels; their six grandchildren, Norman and Ralph Michaels, and Leroy, Verna Mae, Eugene and Irma Jensen, and their two great grandchildren, Raymond and Keith Jensen, were all present. J. C. Madsen was the toastmaster. Two songs composed for the occasion by Mrs. Hans Hansen and Mrs. M. Jensen were sung by the group. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Jensen, the former a brother of Carl Jensen; Messrs. and Mesdames P. M. Madsen, J. Sorensen, J. C. Hansen, H. Melgard, H. Hansen and H. C. Patterson; Mrs. N. Larsen of Reedley; Rev. and Mrs. H. M. Hansen of Del Rey and Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson of Kingsburg.

Mrs. Rica Jensen, 76, Expires in Reedley

REEDLEY (Fresno Co.), Nov. 23. - Mrs. Rica Jensen, 76, a resident of Reedley for thirty one years, died last night in a Fresno hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Ebenezer Lutheran Church with Rev. H. M. Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the Reedley Cemetery with the Cairns Funeral Home in charge. Surviving are her husband, Carl Jensen; a son, Caspar, and a daughter, Mrs. Glenn Michaels. She also leaves a brother in Wisconsin; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
