Sisters Meet First Time in 35 Years
RICHLAND CENTER - Six sisters met for the first time in 35 years Sunday at the home of Mrs. Lou Pugh, Gotham. The sisters are the daughters of Simon and Mary Blake, pioneer residents of Richland county. One of the sisters has lived in the state of Washington for many years and this was her first visit to Wisconsin since 1907. She is Mrs. Viola Mason. The others are Mrs. William Abbey, Dodgeville; Mrs. Mary E. Davis, and Mrs. Charles Lovell, Madison; Mrs. Lou Pugh, Gotham; and Mrs. Pearl Lawton, Richland Center. In March, 1939, Ida Elmira (Blake) Abbey as a widow moved from the City of Dodgeville, Iowa Co., WI, to the Town of Farmington, Waupaca Co., WI, to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Almo (Abbey) Larson.
Almo Joshua Larson sent this letter to his wife, Emma, on May 6, 1939. He was in Washington, DC, to testify before the House of Representatives subcommittee on agriculture. Waupaca - Mr. and Mrs. Almo Larson left Tuesday evening for Watertown where Mrs. Larson will join her daughter-in-law and small grandson and go to Atlanta Ga., to visit at the home of Major and Mrs. R. A. Lewis. Mrs. Lewis was the former Frieda Larson of this city. From they will motor to Fort Benning at Columbus, Ga., where Lieutenant Wilbur Larson is stationed. Mrs. Larson and infant son will remain with Lieutenant Larson while his mother will return by plane after a short visit. Lieutenant Larson has been, until recently, under Major Loren Gmeinder at Camp Livingston, La., Major Gmeinder also being a former Waupaca man.

Larson Discusses AAA in Talk Before Lions Club at Manawa
Manawa - Introduced as one of the "busiest men in Waupaca county," Almo J. Larson, Waupaca county AAA chairman, member of the selective service board, chairman of the county UDA war board, and active in numerous other civic and county projects, was the speaker at the dinner meeting of the Manawa Lions club at the Odd Fellows hall Monday evening. Mr. Larson was introduced by A. C. Lindsay, Manawa, chief clerk of the Waupaca selective service board. Larson discussed the agricultural adjustment act. Organized in 1933, the first AAA contracted with the farmers to adjust production of major crops, and the farmers were paid for doing this out of a processing tax, Larson stated. "The supreme court declared the act unconstitutional in 1935, however, but a new act known as the soil conservation and domestic allotment was passed in 1936, two months later, providing for production adjustment through emphasis on soil conservation," the speaker stated. "The same idea was strengthened by the agricultural act of 1938 which provided for the present farm program." Major objectives of the AAA farm program, according to Larson, are to conserve the nation's soil, to stabilize farm production and income, to protect the consumer, and to provide for national defense. "The soil is the most important of our national resources," Larson stated, "and the AAA program encourages soil-building practices such as seeding legumes, and grasses, liming, fertilizing crop land classified as conserving, plowing under certain green manure crops, building erosion control dams, terracing, tree planting and weed control." During the current year farmers have obtained 22 carloads of phosphate and potash and 20,000 tone of lime under the conservation materials program, and in addition about 8,000 tons of lime have been used to earn the full soil building allowance. The program in the county is administered by the county committeemen elected in each township. Only farmers participating in the program are eligible to hold offices in the AAA farm program.

Major Wilbur A. Larson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Almo Larson who has been overseas for four years, is visiting at the home of his parents. With him are his wife and two children from Watertown. Wilbur, who spent much of his time in Australia, is having a 30-day furlough.
Mrs. Donal Egelus, the former Marion Stratman, daughter of Mrs. Maude Stratman, who is visiting her husband's parents in Jerome, Idaho, has learned that her husband, Chief Petty Officer Donal Egelus, is en route to the United States from Hawaii. Mrs. Egelus was superintendent of surgery in Queen's hospital, Honolulu, from 1940 until her return a year ago because of ill health. She is now conducting a clinic for Mexican laborers in Jerome.

An open house for 100 friends and relatives from the Waupaca area marked the 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 6 of Mr. and Mrs. Almo Larson at their farm home 3-1/2 miles northwest of Waupaca on Larson road. The Larsons, now semi-retired, have lived on the farm since April 1912 after returning to the area from Spokane, Wash. They were married Sept. 6, 1911, in Wesley Methodist church of Spokane, where they had originally met. Larson moved west after growing up near Waupaca and graduating from Waupaca high school in 1904. His wife was born in Richland Center, Wis. and grew up in Dodgeville, Wis. The Larsons operated a dairy farm on their 250 acres for many years, but now have the land in the soil bank. Attending the celebration were the Larson's only child, Wilbur and his wife from Watertown; Larson's brother, Arthur, R. 4, Waupaca; a cousin, Irving Lewis, Waupaca; a niece, Mrs. Cora Johnson, Waupaca; and a sister of Mrs. Larson's, Mrs. Maud Stratman, Waupaca. The Larsons three grandsons were unable to attend.

Waupaca Man Dies of Heart Attack
WAUPACA - Almo J. Larson, 77, route 4, Waupaca, died unexpectedly of a heart attack about 8:30 a.m. Monday while building a bridge on his farm. Efforts of the Waupaca Fire Department failed to revive him. The fire department was called at 8:47 a.m. Monday after a hunter, James Guderjohn, discovered him laying in the field. Larson served many years as clerk on the Farmington Town Board, was chairman of the Production Credit Association here and at Appleton, chairman of the draft board and active in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church affairs.
Funeral Services
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the Bammel Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Tuesday until Wednesday noon and then at the church until the time of service. He is survived by the widow, one son, one brother, two sisters and three grandsons.

WAUPACA - Elmo J. Larson, 77, of route 4, Town of Farmington, Waupaca County, died Monday morning of a heart attack while working in a field near his home. Mr. Larson was born June 29, 1885, in the Town of Farmington. He was married Sept. 11, 1911 to Emme Abbey of Spokane, Wash. Mr. Larson farmed his entire lifetime on the Rt. 4 homestead. Active in civic organizations, Mr. Larson was a former clerk of the Town of Farmington, chairman of the Production Credit Association, chairman on the local draft board during World War II, and chairman of Waupaca County Soil Conservation committee. Survivors include his wife; a son, Wilbur, Watertown; a brother, Arthur, Waupaca; two sisters, Mrs. Frieda Lewis, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Edith Nelson, Hot Springs, S.D.; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupaca, the Rev. P. R. Kuske officiating. Burial will be in the Town of Farmington Cemetery. Friends may call at Bammel Funeral Home after 1 p.m. today until time of services.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Immanuel Lutheran church for Almo J. Larson, 77, route 4, Waupaca, died died suddenly of a heart attack Monday morning while working on a culvert at his farm home in the town of Farmington. He was discovered by a passing hunter, James Guderjohn, of Waupaca, and was pronounced dead about 9 a.m. by acting coroner Dr. John Steiner. Mr. Larson a retired dairy farmer, was prominent for many years in community affairs. He was formerly town clerk of the town of Farmington, chairman of the Production Credit Assn., and chairman of the Soil Conservation committee. Mr. Larson was born June 29, 1885, on the homestead farm on Larson road, a son of Claus and Olivia Larson. He married Emma Abbey on Sept. 6, 1911, in Spokane, Wash. They marked their golden wedding anniversary last year. Mr. Larson was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church. Rev. P. R. Kuske officiated at the Wednesday services. Interment was in Salem cemetery in the town of Farmington. Bammel Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Obert Engebretson, Gerald Swan, Rudolph Hidde, Raymond Moe, Jean Jorgensen, and Joseph Kunz. Surviving are his widow, a son, Wilbur, Watertown; three grandsons, a brother, Arthur D. Larson, Waupaca, and two sisters, Mrs. Frieda Lewis, Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Edith Nelson, Hot Springs, S. Dak.

Almo attended rural grade school in the Town of Farmington, Waupaca Co., WI, and graduated from Waupaca High School in 1904. He attended the College of Agriculture, Dept. of Animal Husbandry, at Urbana, IL, in 1905-1906 and in 1906-1907. He attended Business College at St. Paul, MN, in 1908-1909. He then spent 1909-1912 in the City of Spokane, WA, where he was Secretary for the Paulson Realty Co., and also Manager of the Hutton Building. In Spokane he met Emma, and they were married in 1911. In April 1912 Almo and Emma returned to Wisconsin where they purchased the Family Homestead from his father, Olaus Larson. Almo was a member of the School Board, and was Town Clerk of Farmington Twp. for 13 years. He was a member of Co-operative Farm Produce and Livestock Shipping organization, Co-operative Creamery, and Community Co-operative Oil Co., and also member of cow testing association and County Breeders Association. Member County Committee of the AAA. Chairman and director of the Waupaca Production Credit Assn. and member of the Executive Committee since its organization in 1934, and Chairman of the Soil Conservation Committee. He was Chairman of the local Draft Board during World War II. Almo was also Secretary/Treasurer of the Salem Cemetery Association. He and Emma operated a dairy farm on their 250 acres for many years, and eventually put the land in the soil bank. Emma Jane (Abbey) Larson died March 31, 1985, at Pine Ridge Manor, Waupaca, Waupaca Co., WI, at age 101. Buried in Salem (Old Swede) Cemetery, Town of Farmington, Waupaca Co., WI. Since all of her assets to pay for nursing home care had been used up, she left no estate assets.

Emma Jane Abbey attended Dodgeville Elementary School through the 8th Grade, and eventually went to Spokane, WA, probably with the encouragement from her Aunt Viola Genoa (Blake) Mason, who was already living there. Emma in 1910 was living at 2124 First Avenue, Spokane, WA, where she was a Servant in the private family of John D. McDonald. After Almo's death, Emma sold the farm and moved to an apartment at 320 S. Main Street, Waupaca. On October 30, 1972, Emma (age 88) designated her son, Wilbur Almo Larson, as her Power of Attorney. On June 11, 1973, following the second fracturing of her hip, was sent to St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point, Portage Co., WI. She had been living alone in her Waupaca apartment, and after the hip fracture had been lying on her kitchen floor for over a day before being found. On July 25, 1973, her Stevens Point doctor, F. W. Reichardt, authorized her to be sent to Pine Ridge Manor nursing home in Waupaca, Waupaca Co., WI. This facility was not her first choice, but space was unavailable at Bethany Lutheran Home and her sister Maude had already become a Manor resident earlier that year. Emma passed away there unexpectedly at age 101. At the time of her death she was the oldest member of her church. Her older sister, Maude, died a year later at age 104.

BEATRICE -- Dolores M. Maxson, 76, of Beatrice, formerly of North Loup, Valley Co., NE died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loup. Mike Chase will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in North Loup. Visitation will be prior to services Sunday at the church. Memorial service will be held at a later date in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Legion Auxiliary in North Loup. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Maxson was born June 19, 1925, in Iola, Wis., to Harry and Effie (Jacobson) Swenson. She grew up in Iola and Waupaca, Wis., and attended school in Waupaca where she graduated from high school. She married Lyle E. Vore on Dec. 15, 1945, in Waukegan, Ill. The couple lived in many places. In 1966, she moved to North Loup after her husband's death. She married Herman Maxson on June 1, 1973, in Beatrice, Gage Co., NE. She worked for NE Community Action in Loup City and was chairman of the board. She also was the mayor of North Loup and was on the North Loup Village Board. She lived in North Loup until August 1999, when she moved to Beatrice. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 285 for more than 45 years. Survivors include a son, Keith L. Vore of Burwell; three daughters, Lynette D. Lundstedt of Beatrice, Lee Cording of Hebron and Sue Ellen Yanez of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Delmont Tysdal of Waupaca, Wis., and Royal E. Swenson of King, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a sister, Inez A. Nassen of Iola, Wis. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and a brother, Donald Swenson.

BEATRICE — Dolores M. Maxson, 76, of Beatrice, formerly of North Loup, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loup. Mike Chase will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in North Loup. Visitation will be prior to services Sunday at the church. Memorial service will be held at a later date in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Legion Auxiliary in North Loup. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Maxson was born June 19, 1925, in Iola, Wis., to Harry and Effie (Jacobson) Swenson. She grew up in Iola and Waupaca, Wis., and attended school in Waupaca where she graduated from high school. She married Lyle E. Vore on Dec. 15, 1945, in Waukegon, Ill. The couple lived in many places. In 1966, she moved to North Loup after her husband's death. She married Herman Maxson on June 1, 1973, in Beatrice. She worked for NE Community Action in Loup City and was chairman of the board. She also was the mayor of North Loup and was on the North Loup Village Board. She lived in North Loup until August 1999, when she moved to Beatrice. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 285 for more than 45 years. Survivors include a son, Keith L. Vore of Burwell; three daughters, Lynette D. Lundstedt of Beatrice, Lee Cording of Hebron and Sue Ellen Yanez of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Delmont H. Tysdal of Waupaca, Wis., and Royal E. Swenson of King, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a sister, Inez Naasen of Iola, Wis. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and a brother, Donald Swenson.
Inez Amelia Johnson married Richard Roger Nassen. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Johnson are her parents. Miss Janice Swenson is a cousin.

Waupaca Couple's Daughter Wed to Milwaukee Man
In a simple ceremony performed at noon Saturday in the Immanuel Lutheran church, Waupaca, Miss Edrys Johnson, Milwaukee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Johnson, Waupaca, became the bride of Harold Indestad, also of Milwaukee. The Rev. F. A. Reier, pastor of the church, officiated in the single ring ceremony while Mrs. Norman Anderson, friend of the bride, played the "Lohengrin" and Mendelssohn wedding marches as the processional and recessional. Attending the couple were Miss Phyllis Johnson, sister of the bride, and Gerald Reier, Milwaukee, classmate and friend of the couple. After a dinner served at 1 o'clock at the bride's home with covers laid for 32 guests, Mr. and Mrs. Indestad left for their future home in Milwaukee. The bridegroom is an engineer with the Allis-Chalmers company. Out-of-town guests were Mrs. Robert Jones, Detroit, a sister of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson and Mrs. Fred Johnson, Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Berka, Milwaukee; and Mr. and Mrs. A. Dunlavey, New London. Mr. Indestad is a graduate of Waupaca High school with the class of 1935, later studying at the University of Wisconsin. His bride was graduated with the class of 1936 from Waupaca High school and has been employed as a secretary with the Hormel company, Milwaukee. After Tuesday, March 17, they will be at home at 303 N. Seventy-sixth, Milwaukee.

Henrietta Mae Eggert, June 17, 1921 - December 12, 2010
Age 89, of New London, went into her Heavenly Home on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at St. Joseph Residence in New London. She was born on June 17, 1921 in New London, daughter of the late Richard and Mabel (Grote) Mathewson. In 1939 she married Edwin Eggert in Milwaukee. Henrietta attended schools in New London. She lived in Milwaukee with her husband for 44 years. While in Milwaukee, she worked at various clerical jobs and also as a seamstress for her cousin at Shirley’s Stitch and Fit. Henrietta enjoyed bowling, and working with flowers in her garden. In their retirement, Henrietta and Edwin spent the winters in Phoenix, AZ to be close to her family whom she cherished. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. She is survived by her husband Edwin; son Dennis Eggert and fiancé Lynn, Phoenix, AZ; two granddaughters: Aimee’ Flores, Michelle (Jaime) Molera; three great-grandchildren: Kelly Molera, Ella Flores and Chase Flores; her siblings: June Schroeder, Appleton; Hogan (Jean) Mathewson, Appleton; Elwood (Debbie) Mathewson, Marion; Thomas Mathewson, New London; brother-in-law Ervin Eggert, Sun City, FL; three sisters-in-law: Lois, Marion and Sally Mathewson, all of New London. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers Egbert, Richard, Jack, Robert and Dewey Mathewson and 2 sisters Bonnie Mathewson and Margaret Meyers. A memorial service for Henrietta will be held later in the spring. Donations may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph Residence and Heartland Hospice for their care and concern of Henrietta. Juel Tysdal
Juel Tysdal, 69, Route 1 Iola, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at St Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point. He had been in failing health recently and had been hospitalized the last 16 days. Born in Rice Lake, June 5, 1898, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Tysdal. He moved to Wittenberg during his youth and then to the lola area where he owned and operated his own farm in the town of Harrison. He was married March 25, 1928, in lola to the former Thelma Jacobson. Surviving are his wife; one son, Delmont, Appleton, three grandchildren; one brother, Orville, Gary, III., and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Northland Lutheran Church. The Rev Harold Naig officiated and burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Leonard A. Bricco, Elton, Age 87, died Saturday June 5, 1999, at his home. He
was born November 7, 1911, in Bear Creek, Wisconsin, the son of the late Leo and
Mabel (Olesen) Bricco. On May 24, 1941, he married Marjorie Wurzer at St. James
Catholic Church in White Lake, Wisconsin. Leonard served with the United States
Army Engineering Corps during World War II in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal
and in the Philippine Islands as a Technical Sergeant Fourth Class. Leonard
spent most of his life working in the food service field. Prior to World War II,
he worked as head cook and baker for the Yawkey Bissel Lumber Camp in White
Lake. Following his service in the army, he spent an additional two years in
Greenland during the construction and building of Tule Air Base, serving as a
baker. He worked many years as a food service cook and baker for the Wisconsin
Correctional System in Waukesha, Wisconsin, finishing his career as Food
Production Manager. After he and his wife retired, they moved to their
retirement home in Elton, Wisconsin. Leonard was an active member of St. James
Catholic Church, White Lake, and a member of Anderson- Sather White Lake
American Legion Post 524 and Wolf River Valley White Lake Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 9438. He was deeply moved and honored to represent these groups as
Grand Marshal in their July 4, 1998, Parade. Along with his love for music he
was an accomplished organ and piano player he was also a serious gardener. He
enjoyed traveling.
In addition to his wife, Margie,
he is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Stewart) Hanke, Waukesha, Wisconsin,
and Catherine (Joseph) Ramer, Elton, Wisconsin,
and one son, James (Lois) Bricco, Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his six grandsons, Chad Hanke and Troy (fiancee, Lisa) Hanke,
Waukesha, Wisconsin Terry (Brenda) Bricco, Winona, Minnesota Andy (Dawn) Bricco,
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Jacob and Adam Ramer, Elton, Wisconsin one
granddaughter, Jodi Hanke, Waukesha, Wisconsin and a great-grandson, Brandon
Hanke, Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Other survivors include
three brothers, Domain (Eunice) Bricco, Clarkston, Washington
Loy (Loraine) Bricco, Bear Creek,
and John Bricco, Green Bay
three sisters, Fern Lorge, Annandale, Minnesota,
Irene Van Adestine, Green Bay, Wisconsin,
and Florence (Robert) Mathewson, De Pere, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents
two sisters, Gladys Martin and Zelda Bricco,
and one brother, Joseph Bricco.
Visitation will be at the Bradley Funeral Home Thursday from 3:30 to 8 p.m.
Parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and the White Lake Veterans will
stand Honor Guard from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and conduct Military Rites at the
church following services. Friends and relatives may also call at St. James
Catholic Church, White Lake, Friday from 10 until 11 a.m. Funeral services will
be at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, White Lake with the Rev. Omer Kelley
and Deacon Tom Craig officiating.
Burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Elton. A memorial has been
established in memory of Leonard Bricco to LeRoyer Hospice or St. James Catholic
Church in White Lake, Wisconsin. The family wishes to express a sincere
thank-you to the LeRoyer Hospice, to Judy Murphy for the love and compassion and
to all individuals that assisted with Leonard's care.
