Virgil Lamb was born about 1818 in New York, and died about September 17, 1886, in Alturas Co., ID, at about age 68. Buried in Hailey, Blaine Co., ID. He is the son of Unknown Lamb of New York, and Unknown of Massachusetts.

Almira Harrington was born February, 1830, in New York, and died January, 1906, in Hailey, Blaine Co., ID, at age 75. She is the daughter of John Marvin Harrington of Sandisfield, Berkshire Co., MA, and Eliza "Betsey" Holloway of New York.

Virgil Lamb and Almira Harrington were married June 1, 1849, in Fond du Lac Co., WI.

Virgil Lamb and Almira (Harrington) had five children:

  1. Frank Virgil Lamb: Born July, 1852, in Illinois; Died 1906 - 1940 in Unknown. Lived in Oneida Co., Idaho Territory, in 1880. Married February 27, 1901, at the Hanks Hotel, Pocatello, Bannock Co., ID, to Ethyl Linda Thompson: Born February, 1878, in Bingham Canyon, Salt Lake Co. Utah Territory; Died after 1918 in Unknown. Divorced Saturday, December 1, 1906, in Twin Falls., ID. Frank became a gold miner in Nome, AK, and had success from 1901 - 1905. Ethel resumed using her maiden name as she was attending the business course at Idaho Academy.
  2. John Marvin Lamb: Born August 26, 1855, in Limestone?, Kankakee Co., IL; Died April 6, 1907, in Boise, Ada Co., ID (age 51). Buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Boise, Ada Co., ID. Married December 17, 1879, in Boise, Ada Co., ID, to Nancy Jane "Jennie/Janie" Lawrence: Born March 3, 1860, in Missouri; Died July 5, 1940, at Deaconess Hospital, Salem, Marion Co., OR (age 80). Buried in Belcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Salem, Marion Co., OR.
  3. Charles Edward "Eddie" Lamb: Born April 27, 1873, in Lake Twp., Newton Co., IN; Baptized November 12, 1876, in Boise, Ada Co., Idaho Territory; Died June 14, 1942, in Nevada, CA (age 69). Buried in Orland Masonic Cemetery, Orland, Glenn Co., CA. Married February 28, 1895, in Blaine Co., ID, to Sarah Dorothea Hartung: Born November 16, 1877, in Mahanoy City, PA; Died August 3, 1967, in Mendocino, CA (age 79). Buried in Orland Masonic Cemetery, Orland, Glenn Co., CA. His son is Virgil Charles Lamb: Born December 8, 1895, in Haley, ID; graduated from Hailey High School in May, 1915, and married (1) June, 8, 1918, in Shoshone, Lincoln Co., ID, to Fay S. Emmons. Arlie Ruth Kuhl 1919 in Roane, WV.

JOHN M. LAMB was born in Kankakee County, Illinois, August 26, 1855. His father was a farmer, and John was reared as a farmer's son, but received a liberal education, and soon engaged in other pursuits. In May, 1878, he came to Idaho, where he has since resided. His business interests in Boise City and the Territory are numerous and extensive. From 1878 to 1880 he held the office of Territorial Secretary, since which he has engaged in business for himself. Besides being a real estate agent, money loaner, and keeping a complete set of abstracts of Ada County property, he is engaged in the manufacture of lumber, having one-half interest in two mills. He is owner of Lamb's Marble Works, Boise City. He is connected with several enterprises, among which is that of reclamation of desert lands by constructing irrigating ditches. He is now President of the Indian Valley Irrigation Company, which is constructing an extensive ditch to convey water from the Boise River to lands lying some distance southwest of Boise City. This ditch will open up from 12,000 to 15,000 acres as already planned, but if enlarged according to intention will bring more than 100,000 acres under cultivation and improvement. Mr. Lamb is an extensive land owner, now being possessed of about 2,000 acres of unreclaimed desert. He also owns two and one-third blocks in Boise City, on which he has 150 trees of superior kinds. In 1879 he married Miss Jennie Lawrence, a native of Missouri.

Harrington (age 62) born in Massachusetts with real estate of $1,000 is a Farmer and is living in Byron Twp., Fond du Lac Co., WI. Living with him is Eliza Harrington (age 42) born in New York. Also there are: Marvin Harrington (age 19) born in New York, a Farmer; a male, Amaza Harrington (age 16) born in New York, a Farmer; Lucretia Harrington (age 14) born in New York; Delos Harrington (age 14) born in New York, and Hellen Harrington (age 4) born in Michigan. Also living there are: Charles Bates (age 16) born in Michigan, a Farmer; and Hannah Cildri? (age 17) born in Ireland.

The 1850 U. S. Census taken on August 14, 1850, shows William Watson (age 40) born in Ireland with real estate of $150 is a Mason and is living in the Town of Penfield, Monroe Co., NY. Living with him is Abigail Watson (age 25) born in New York. Also living there are four Watson children, all born in New York: Elizabeth Watson (age 8); Sarah Watson (age 6); Warren Watson (age 4); and Mary J. Watson (age 5/12).

William Watson died 1850-1855 in the Town of Penfield, Monroe Co., NY, at about age 35.

Orrin Abbey and Abigail (Harrington) Watson were married on March 28, 1855, at the residence of her father, John M. Harrington, in Byron Twp., Fond du Lac Co., WI.


This marriage record for Orrin Abbey and Abigail (Harrington) Watson was located by Leigh Larson when he visited the office of the Register of Deeds for Fond du Lac Co., WI, on June 4, 2003. Orrin said under oath that he heard that his former wife was dead, although she was not. The three witnesses to this marriage were: Abigail's father, John Marvin Harrington, and two of Abigail's step-brothers, William Moore Allen and James Amasa Allen.

Living with him are: Elmira Lamb (age 41) born in New York, who is Keeping House; Frank Lamb (age 17) born in Illinois; and John M. Lamb (age 15) born in Illinois.

Laid Away.

The funeral of Virgil Lamb - the well-known milkman who has been with Hailey from the first - took place Sunday. The remains were followed by a long line of carriages to the burying ground, and conspicuous at the grave were members of the Masonic fraternity in Hailey, of which Order the deceased was a member.

VIRGIL LAMB, father of John M. Lamb of Boise City, died suddenly near Hailey the other day, of paralysis of the heart. He was 65 years of age.

The Hailey Inter-Idaho, says the late Virgil Lamb's ranch consisting of 480 acres of land, three miles from Hailey, with stock and fixtures, was sold this week to an Englishman for ten thousand dollars.

Lamb (age 14) born April 1886 in Idaho to Illinois and Missouri-born parents.

Mr. Frank Lamb of Lost River and Miss Ethel Thompson of Blackfoot, were married at the Hanks hotel, Pocatello, Wednesday evening, February 27th. After congratulations of friends the parties took the train for the west. They will spend some days in Hailey and Shoshone before returning to their home on Lost river.

GUARDIAN APPOINTED. - Judge Koelsch yesterday appointed Mrs. Jennie M. Lamb guardian for her husband, who has been incompetent for several years. She has asked permission to sell certain portions of the community real estate.


Leigh Larson note: Interesting to note that John M. Lamb was judged an Incompetent person by June, 1901, and Jennie L. Lamb was listed as Guardian of his estate.

Mrs. Almira Lamb, mother of Frank Lamb, of this place, died at Hailey last week. Mrs. Lamb was well known and highly respected here, and had a host of friends who will be grieved to hear of her death.

Saturday Death - John M. Lamb died yesterday in this city at the age of 47 years. Paralysis from which he had been an invalid for a number of years, was the cause of death. The funeral will be held at 2:30 this afternoon from the undertaking parlors of Schreiber & Sidenfaden. Burial will be in Masonic cemetery. The K. of P.'s who have cared for the deceased for several years, will have charge of the services.

Lamb - Mrs. Jennie L. Lamb, 80, at a local hospital July 5. Late resident of 850 Market street. Survived by son, John M. Lamb; brothers, John and Byrd Lawrence of Boise, Idaho, and James Lawrence of Starr, Idaho; sisters, Mrs. John Justin, Mrs. Samuel Couzens and Mrs. Jerry Couzens, all of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, fro the Clough-Barrick chapel with Rev. Guy L. Drill officiating. Interment Belcrest Memorial park.


John M. Lamb died April 6, 1963, in a nursing home, Puyallup, WA. Buried in Belcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Salem, Marion Co., OR.
