Carlton W. Johnson

JOHNSON - Carlton W. Johnson, age 84 of West Covina, passed away December 31, 2008. He was born May 17, 1924 in Cambridge, Minnesota to Anna and Albert Johnson. His first wife Delores precedes him in death. He is survived by his second wife Esther of West Covina; a son Steve Johnson of Covina; a daughter Karla Johnson of Philadelphia; a brother John Johnson of Laguna; three step-children and five grandchildren. Johnson was called up into active service in the U.S. Army during World War II and inducted into the Office of Strategic Services. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota and then worked for Honeywell for 37 years, including an eight-year residency in Tokyo. Upon his retirement, he moved to West Covina to be closer to his family. A private funeral was held at Forest Lawn in Covina. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Breath Savers Respiratory Support Group, Inter Community Hospital, 210 W. San Bernardino Road, Covina, 91722.

CARLTON W. JOHNSON

Carlton W. Johnson, age 84, passed away Dec. 31, 2008.

He was born May 17, 1924 in Cambridge, Minnesota to Anna and Albert Johnson. As a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend he will be dearly missed. Carlton was a firm believer in the value of hard work and was successful in all he set out to do. He was called up into active service in the U. S Army during World War II and was inducted into the Office of Strategic Services as a technical sergeant. He traveled throughout Europe and Southeast Asia setting up transmitter sites that helped to relay information to Allied troops from behind enemy lines. He was fond of sharing his war stories, especially driving the famed Burma Road during the final weeks of the war. Following the war, Carlton graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota, married his first wife Delores and went to work for Honeywell. They lived in Minneapolis, where they started a family. Promotions and transfers during his 37 years with the company took the family to New York, California and further abroad to Tokyo, where he served as the director of International Operations Far East Region. After eight years in Japan and the loss of his wife, Carlton was transferred to Philadelphia, where he lived with his second wife Esther until his retirement. They returned to California to be closer to their family. He was a 23 year resident of OSS-101 Association 9 the city and enjoyed woodworking, golf, tennis and traveling. He is survived by his wife Esther of West Covina, a son Steve Johnson of Covina; a daughter Karla Johnson of Philadelphia; a brother John Johnson of Laguna, and his wife Mary; a stepson John Jackson of Oceanside, and his wife Ellen; two stepdaughters: Ellen Henley of Spring, Texas and her husband Neil, and Lynn Carri of West Covina; five grandchildren: Brad, Matt, Scott, Kristi and April; four nieces and nephews and countless friends.
